all this talk of welding lately, its not the best but it does the job for what it is...
overkill? never! just cos its shortened doesnt mean it wont hit the ground on occasion
unfortunately my free day to do bug stuff was interrupted so thats all i got done, better than nothing though!

ok so theres a few pin holes through it
can anyone pick the one i did prior to going out
small update, the last 2 tubes are done, now to fill in the sides, add baffles & shorten the pickup to suit.
oh its approx 80-85mm deep for those playing at home, 10mm socket & extension fits thru the tube with about .5mm to spare
the outlet on the RHS of the water pump in the above pic is about to say bye bye also

Looks interesting, how thick is your plate ?
Will be an interesting design once finished, should have a descent capacity.
Here are some pice of how we do ours which might give you some ideas. We presure test them to 5 PSI once done to make sure they don't leak.
We have had some issues with the tig welds around the tubes on the earlier ones when they heated up as the tubes wouldn't expand at the same rate as
the plates. We made some design changes and technique changes to sort this and have had no issues since, just something to think about.
Also keep in mind that you usually feed the sump on to get the dipstick to seat, if you make a straight bolt up you will need to remember to take that
off before you fit it.
Oh and remember to include the oil return tube so that the oil goes into the base of the sump and doesn't get all aired up and bubled etc, this will
cause issues with surge and running dry.
Anyway hope that helps, good to see people giving it a crack.

2-3mm, baffles will be 1.6ish, my theory is that if it hits the ground despite being shortened i want it to be strong enough to take a hit or two,
will see how it goes in practise once its all done i guess, & if it fails i can just go for a drive & grab a CVD one
dipstick hole/tube will be the same as stock so should bolt on & off just the same with a little wriggling, hopefully ive got some free time
tomorrow morning to continue it once ive done this it either coolant
lines or exhaust manifold- cant wait for my electricity bill

by the time the nationals come around, i dont think i want to touch anything fiberglass again, my aero guards are getting some love, the bumper is
mounted, pics to follow, i think it looks odd & needs to go wider, radiator mount/panel work is progressing, shift rod/shifter coming soon, oh and
skinnier tyres at least on the front. with max castor adjustment on the sway bar & the tops all the way back they rub on the forward lip of the
aero more than a little bit, oh and 18x10.5s with 265s on them fill out rear guard space quite nicely

hows this for shit timing, finished off my dash JUST now, shutup i slept in last 2 mornings, its been a looooong week, anyway camera awesome, plugged
it in to the computer... card error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! raaaggggeeeee!!!!!! - getting the pics of the car stuff already done is fine but i had other

ok camera/laptop learnt to talk each others language now, pics uploading 
ok welcome to the latest burst of bits & peices of dub work thrown in amongst the rest of life! - older im getting the less time & money ive
got to use on this, its depressing!
anyway pics as promised
replaced my "blue" parker bulb with the blue LED's im using in the guages, and farrrk they are bright! - probably just a touch too much but for
shits & giggles it was entertaining
anyone ever seen spacers done like this before? off a friends car that im helping do a decent fitment on - without cheating/dodgy'ing it with spacers
or any other shit, and its getting VOLKS! not cheap - bastard apprentices having disposable income
anyway for thrills i thought it throw it on STIDUB...
18x10.5 with 265/40/18 on it...
mounted up it would be approx +35ET, 33 preferrably, fit under the aero that i had loosely on, couldnt hold guard wheel and take a decent pic so didnt
bother but you get the idea, but yes 10's fit very nicely
big thanks to joel for the bumper brackets to suit the later bar!
turns out no mods needed to bolt it up, at least with 2 of the 3 bolts - relatively headache free
however.... this is where i have a problem... 4" wider body with stock bumper looks strange to me, im thinking 4-6" wider bumper would suit much
better, it just doesnt... flow?
anyway you should get the idea from that lot
next up is the fun glass work ive given myself...
up next on the menu 4" ducts in both rear guards, tucked up as far as possible to give max tyre clearance, it sits on bumpstops compressed &
still clears the 90deg silicone join, highest guard bolt is done with an open ended spanner but not a huge drama, just about ready to mirror it into
the other side but the neighbours probably wont like grinding/drilling at 1am, that & i have a smashed r32 to fix tomorrow, yippee, skyline
variety not golf - bonus is food & drinks all day & get to drive it at fri nite drifts coming soon
ok and on the other end, radiator stuff
roughed out a panel to stop air recirculating through the rad so its constantly got cool air, should work, also have a similar shape scoop that drops
down to the same level as the aeros if it needs more air fed into it, but hopefully not.
the above is a little rough but it was all just eyeball measured & scribbled out
lastly, after months of waiting for postage from europa in england - thanks ricola for pointing me that way! my warning lights MOSTLY showed up
despite not putting QLD on the damn package
so we will ignore the battery light being in the indicator spot for now ok
more to come, IF i order the other electric/dash stuff through them HOPEFULLY it doesnt take a month to send it.
think thats all for now, probably wont be much else changing till after nationals, see you there! can i go to bed yet? 5hrs till it all starts
again.
can someone remind me what a weekend is again?
and how on earth do you guys with kids actually do this? your all nuts!

Nice update, those gauges fit perfectly! I agree with you about the bumper, definitely needs to go wider, can you get widened 'glass ones over there
or do you want to stick with chrome? These rear wing intakes are really taking off now, not surprising given the good results from boof and Jak.

thanks for the compliment rich, its only taken 6months of brain scratching while sitting on a milk crate holding a steerign wheel to work out what
layout would work nicely with visability & cage etc
yeah since studying both of their cars i was keen to do it, just... BIGGER!

You'll find with the brackets bolted in like that your bumper will be facing downhill a bit.
Here's how my brackets are redrilled.
I still think you're worrying over nothing with the bumper width.
All the other aero supers around look fine with stock bumpers

Hi
I'm doing the final fit-up of my bumpers now. On the front I only had to elongate the holes and put some new ones in.
I'm using 75/76 style brackets like Joel has shown, the middle slot on the end of the bracket I opened out to the very end to give me some to guard
clearance and I made new slots for the other two holes, this gives me a decent clearance between end of the bumper and the mudguard.
The rear the bumper was really close to the guard edge, I needed to extend the bracket about 35 mm.
These brackets have place to fit a K mart jack handle in to get them to line up nicely.
I agree with Joel, the stock bumper length looks fine.

hard to tell what angle the bumper is at, its cable tied on
skyline/silvia engineering is tainting my beetle haha
the bumper in pics is a mostly mint, its got one ding in the bottom original 76 bar, get ya mits off it sides!
your dash is just ally, not steel, ally would be 10000x easier, this was a pain, if it wasnt so late & i wasnt up so early i might be cutting my
original metal out right now, damn neighbours & work!!
also in other aero'd bug pics the bumpers all look slightly different, just cant pick what it is, perhaps like the minor bend differences in the
supers at the gold coast show joel?
oh on a side note, club meet this week, super urgent chat about the amarok to be had - sides u want to pay attention

not a bad view i reckon
now just need to cut more out NEATLY to make it sit flat with the stock dash sheeting, its a VERY cosy fit with the curve/bend above the speedo &
over the original speedo hole, the wiper motor has heaps of clearance, now to find matching switches for hazards & lights, so far so good, oh big
hole up the front for my radiator is in, no pics of that it was rushed in as people showed up for dinner at ours

I think u will need a "no junk mail sticker" for the those air intakes. Postman will mistake them for something else
Maybe some mesh so that low flying wildlife or small children don't get sucked in?

Dave, are the side scoops running straight into the intake or for intercooling? any issues with water being sucked into the intake?

came home to find the other indicator light had arrived in the mail sometime today, yay
after picking up my bug tech shifter from side's place!!!!!!!! its... shiny and VERY chunky
so anyway unfortunately working both tomorrow (ippy show holiday) & sunday for quite generous pay rates
so hoping to have my shift rod back out & shortened & put back in with shifter attached saturday, fingers crossed the thirst for sleep doesnt
hit too hard & ruin the plans

soooo, ever had an issue that the shift was so short you could barely tell the difference between gears? the ORIGINAL shifter that i checked alignment
with moments before putting this sucker in was... 1ft long, under the dash 1st, over the handbrake 2nd etc you all know the deal....

i can think of far easier things to measure than this bloody thing
installation was assisted...
i have a lovely bent rod to help persuade the shift rod down the tunnel through the bushing if anyones interested, prescision bent with a milk crate,
concrete and a 60mm nylon hammer
in unrelated, but done at the same time news...
indicator light is in its hole now!
and to the main event and the final act of the evening...
