tonight we fabricated new braided fuel lines from the regulator to the Holley carb , mounted the Holley carb , removed the fuel tank and welded in a new large dash-10 nipple for the fuel supply , and Dean assembled the rear apron assembly back onto his beetle.....

Tomorrow night we will finish the fuel system , fabricate an accelerator cable , and off to the dyno on Wednesday afternoon.....

Deans bug looks really wild with the detailed turbo system ..... cant wait to see it on the dyno and then on the track :crazy::crazy::crazy:

last night Dean and I fabricated & installed the fuel hoses .
We welded in a much larger nipple to his fuel tank to ensure ample fuel supply & also a much larger breather fitting to enable air to get back into the tank when the fuel is pulled

Engine fired and all sounds great !!
On the dyno this afternoon , just need to make an accelerator cable this morning

had a lot of trouble trying to get Deans bug to run smoothly on the E85 fuel as the low-speed galleries in the Holley carburettor a far too large as we have discovered .

So the quick & easy solution for this event was to drain the entire fuel system and set his bug up on methanol .

We had great results his bug on the dyno , producing 256hp @ the wheels on just 8psi boost ....... Dean is ecstatic with the results !!

thanks Dave ( and all other well wishes ) , we did run Deans bug on methanol .
The original plan was to run E85 and we set Deans bug up to do this , however the 750dp methanol Holley I purchased was supplying way too much fuel at low speed so we drained the fuel system and changed to methanol to get it ready for the VWMA VW drags .

We then drained the fuel sustem , changed back to E85 and I purchased a 750sq bore vacuum sec Holley petrol carb and proceeded to set that up on E85 . We found that the low speed running was terrible and excessive amounts of fuel were pooling in the turbo at low speed .

We then drained the fuel system again and changed to 98ulp , installed Deans 2 original 48IDF webers on a conversion manifold ( dual weber IDF to Holley pattern ) that I had on the shelf , to find it idles perfectly at 800rpm and was extremely smooth and very responsive with no fuel pooling in the turbo . This now tells me that we just have to get the low speed set-up jetted correctly on E85 . We will try the webers on E85 next week before going back to the holley carb .

We then drained the fuel system again , changed back to methanol and installed the 750dp methanol Holley to run at WSID street-meet Wednesday night 27-03-2013 .

Deans speed at WSID was 123mph ...... he had 3 runs and the slowest was 120mph .....
