To be honest weight is your friend on the salt ...better traction at high speed....you need to think away from drag racing where power to weight is
more desired over a short distance. A lot of the 200 mph + cars add lead ballast to help keep them on planet earth....so the magic air wall will keep
you speeds down and you require more torque to climb over .....a bay window will be fine and is a lot more aero than a splitty too. A Type 1 donk may
not produce enough torque at high rpm's to help push the brick through the air...this is why in the states the top speed splitty on the salt was
109mph....with a different top gear ratio we feel the bus is capable of 125-130 mph currently our set up was 5200rpm in 4th 117.8mph...we worked for
max torque...its all fun and hard to honestly work out...other cars are so much more aero than a bus so information is very very light on , we more or
less are pioneeers in this style of racing with such large frontal area of a bus to contend with.......can't ask the guy next door what did you run
etc etc cheers steve

Ok makes sense Steve!! Have got a 2960cc type 4 on the way for the bus so it should have plenty of torque!!

I was standing at the start line when the Roo Shooter shot off into the distance breaking that world record. The sight of an early splitty spreading
the salt was amazing and even more amazing was the end result.
Now based on Steve's earlier comments that weight is your friend on the salt then I am thinking that if could find a wide park bench that would meet
all the DLRA rules and regulations then I might be able to fit my well proportioned arse into the park bench and go for a run in the Roo Shooter next
year.
Me having a go at Land Speed Racing, maybe I would have to rename it the Poo Shooter to match any skidmarks.
Was thinking the next Volkswagen on the salt maybe a
Country Buggy as these were so built for speed............imagine running 2.9 litre TDI mounted midships and matched to a DSG gear box..

Sounds like the big type 4 is doing it pretty easy only at 5200rpm!
Can you share some specifications on your big Type 4 Steve?
What work is done to the oil system?
I always think about those sustained high rpm runs draining the sump.
Dry sump would be a great mod!

Hi Dave, the big type 4 runs a relatively standard oiling system.....we use a porsche fan and a remote cooler that is only relying on bypass air to
cool and is located behind the front axle. Fat performance [Rod flemming] supplied a melling oil pump, camshaft, lifters 104.7 barrel and piston
assy. The crankshaft is a scat unit along with individual split port cylinder heads,,,,rods are H beam units. The ignition system is a magna spark fro
CB performance and run 51.5 IDA's. Compression is 11.4 and we run 98 pump gas....soon to try E85. Our fuel system is not correctly tuned and have
lean out issues due to the bowl cc in the IDA's on long straights. The bus is more than capable to run much higher speeds and have calculated at
least 125mph to the 130mph range. Crankcase pressure with the large 104 bore causes enough issues with a continuous fill up of oil in our breather box
that's 5liter container ...vacum pump and a dry sump are the next improvements and hopfully give us even more hp.cheers steve
