Not really scarey at all. Scariest bit was looking at the temp gauge, think it was 230F, and took a long time to come down.

Downloaded the calculator. It says only 180. It was a lot closer when I worked it out with the tyre diameter. even if I am mistaken and they were 65 series tyres its still low.
Pretty sure I worked out 195 at the time. Very disapointed at 180. :(

Couldn't just let this thread slide into the oblivion.

Has anyone got the fugures yet??

I heard a rumour there is/was a beetle in Brisbane (owned by a fella by the name of Craig), daily driven, that holds the mantle.

Anyone ....

ANYONE??

Craig's beetle was absolutley immaculate, but I think the fast it ever went was around a 12.6. It was on the cover of an old VW scene magazine.

Yeah only problems is that most of the times on the Berg Trophy are for 1/8 mile.

bit hard to compare with 1/4 mile stuff but hey wait till mid next year when the new track is up n running.

Man, this is like pulling teeth.

I was obviously unaware of how complicated it is to identify the quickest street-registered car.

Please keep lookin into it Dave, we are waiting with baited breath.

The title so far seems to be held by :bounce

Keith Haeusler

[My old 56 turbo ran 12.1 at 116 last time at Eastern creek on everyday 205 street tyres using full muffler and unleaded fuel. I think the 1/8th miletime was 7.8 to 8.0 at 90mph. This was my only car so it was driven 7 days to week to work etc. It was engineered and insured with shannons.]

:bounce:bounce:bounce

Does anyone have any actual time's to claim the forum title ? :vader

Well you all ask for it, so heres a list of all the winners straight off the Berg Trophy over the past few years, in event order.

Most events were held at Oran Park in Sydney, which in the early days was a distance of 850 feet, which means nothing to anyone.

In or around 1993 I convinced the NSWHRA to reduce the track length to a standard 1/8 mile 660 feet, so as the times would be representative to other tracks around the world.

I have to check my OTHER records as some of these may be adjusted or added to.

I hope you all can calculate your cars performance

In the early years of this trophy the STREET REGISTERED rules were vague to say the least. Jeff Unwin and Mr Berg discussed and determined the rules as such. These have and will be published each year prior to each event.

NO CORRESPONDANCE will be entered into.

Fastest in Oz!

There is a guy in Melbourne that has a street car with a US style turbo bug in full street trim that has done a 10.5 I believe!....I think there was a story on the guy in a fast fours mag a couple of years back...I'll see if I can track it down!...

Yeah the REAL turbo engine is still not together. The hatch job did a 13.5 the blew up!....

Dave the Doc on adelaide is quick but I think Dave Prior's bug in adelaide is quicker....And Arron Britcher's Black Squareback Panel is on the road now.....Now that has to be a real contender! He hasn't run it at the drags yet...Maybe next year!

10's are believable in an early bodied beetle. BUT - would have to have 500hp or therabouts, indestructible tranny, nice set of slicks, excellent hook up and a large pair of you - know - whats.....

Sad to hear about the engine Humpty... look forward to seeing the new one together.

Any ideas on when the next NoH20 Drag Nite is going to be ?

Yeah Doug I agree with the early body and horse power etcetc

But from the description you have just written, It does not sound like its a FULL daily driver average street car.

Thats why the Berg Rules were written.

Jak who got the tape on this 10s car ?? i would like to see a copy.

Top streetcar!!!!

Sofar Leigh has the trophy I guess...Unless someone can track down that guy in Melbourne...Much ezr for you guys on the east coast!

Doug....If you have about 300hp & the right ratios & you know how to drive...you can get into the 10's...I've seen loads of cars do it in the US back in the early 90's when I was living over there!

I reckon another drag night or 2 will happen early in the new year....I won't be racing though...Those heads I bought off Hamo (you remember them Keith?) all those years ago need a tidy up!...The engines coming out in the new year...As soon as the SVX/Transporter is finished!

Study the times, people.

Something fishy goin' on here. The discrepancies are just too great to be believable.

What's the story with "TBA" results. Was the trophy won or not. If not, why not?

For instance,

1990 850' 10.03 @ 87.37mph
1992 850' 8.69 @ 83.33mph

1.34 seconds quicker but 4.04 mph slower.

And 2000 660' 8.6 @ 80.35mph
2001 660' 8.56 @ 74.65mph
0.04 seconds quicker but 5.7mph slower.

Jon, that video is awesome. :bounce

Found the letter i wrote on 3rd June 1993 to the NSWHRA re the track length at Sydneys Oran Park.

I wrote a letter to ask them to reduce the track distance for racing from 850 feet to the standard 1/8 mile length of 660 feet.

Of course they did this and we raced a standard distance after this date...

I remember reading a UK vw mag a year or two ago that featured a light blue 1968+ body shaped vw that had a Twin Turbo'd type 4 engine fitted.

The car was radically engineered, and featured porsche 944 brakes all around(the owner was a german machinest).

The car was assembled very light weight, but did have a full roll cage fitted. Estimated weight of about 820-850kg.

I think I remember the article said the car had a maximum power output of approx. 440-480 hp, and that it was impossible to drive when the road was wet.

If there were ever street registered car that could easily break 10 seconds on the 1/4, this was the car.

Of course its not and aussie beetle...
