Wow, always driving 10 over, you sound like a sensible driver. Why slow down for school zones? You might as well be abuse the speed limits everywhere and take out a few innocent lives

10 over ppfff,I drive to the road conditions,oh look that's a 400mtr straight past a school:lol::lol::lol:....hope that made someone laugh after the last few posts...

Sick68vw,you do hear some horror stories bout people getting pulled over by cops on power trips, like what happened to you and these are the cops that give them a bad name..I have only had a couple before,my first was when I was on my P's and he followed me for atleast 30minutes one day driving back from blueberry picking with my mates in the car waiting for one slip up and he finally got it..what a complete tosser to say the least.it was not here u go here is your fine see you later either...he worked me up so much it was very hard to keep my hands to myself!!!!he made me feel so shit in front of my mates and ever since this day when I see traffic cops I get "can't think of the world" but your hearing me.....

Sort of Off subject a bit here but still bout cops....
Once I was driving on the freeway to work stuck behind a typical right lane hog doing 95 for five minutes before my short ahhh patience got the better of me so I gave him a couple of flashes to try and get him to move over which he never did then finally he moved over and when I went past it was a cop:lol::lol: in a unmarked car,he never looked at me when I drove past,so to me that makes me think for the whole time he was never watching behind him....
Another time I was creeping ever so slowly past another annoying right hand lane hog on the freeway and just as I got half a length ahead I heard sirens go off which scared me and I looked back at two cops"unmarked ford" death starring me,I told em f@rk off then I thought shit why did I do that but they never pulled me over..I was not speeding at all....so do cops not get told stay out of the right lane unless overtaking??

I've had to pass a police car on the inside lane that had 5 cops in it - oh the looks they gave my old vw... and me, hopefully they could read the look I was giving them - though I'm sure I gave a blank, questioning stare.

Has anyone heard of the 85 percentile rule??
If a car is driving below the speed limit you can (suggested, must) use the overtaking lane often beyond the signed limit. eg: a car doing 95 in a 100 zone would require you to overtake at 130kmh to overtake safely (so you spend as little time in the opposing traffic lane). Them doing 85kmh requires 110 to get past.
After reading the the above on a lawyers site last week, I recalled I had a question pertaining to it when I went for my bike learners, decades ago, it was multiple choice.
The question was along the lines of; "Is there anytime you can exceed the signed speed limit?".
One of the answers was; "while overtaking a slow driver when using a lane dedicated to oncoming traffic." I chose the wrong answer and the correct one was pointed out.

85th percentile rule is used by engineers to set all Australian speed limits below what it a road is safe to drive.

There are some interesting reads on law websites regarding getting off speeding fines especially what road rules are kept from the public eye.
It's suggested a few rules the police aren't even made aware of.

When it comes to radar; I'm led to believe (have never read evidence) the police must allow 12% for radar error. I'm also told the police wont bother you up to 15kmh over a limit (driving conditions allowing). Even as a young pizza delivery driver on my P's I was pulled over by the police and he told me I was allowed to drive 10kmh over.
But I now believe this is more likely to do with the 85th percentile rule.

The exception is School Zones, and you cannot appeal a School Zone violation.

I have been pulled over and fined when driving well over the limit, the police are generally good people and issued a fine well below the offence after they consider my reasoning and see my driving record.

I comfortably overtake police and hwy patrol at 10 over the limit (conditions allowing). Even in known blitz areas all I've been issued with is a wave of the finger as I pass - I usually give them a wave back in acknowledgment.

Some places aren't worth speeding, or even overtaking even when marked differently. I know of 60 zones that should be 50 that I drive 40 through because conditions rarely allow for it to driven at 60. Often areas like this are hunted by police, especially in country towns.

also another rule was told by a cop( soon might be changed) was you can't get booked rolling down hill up to a certain safe speed of course.

not sure how true that is, but seems legit when I let my car roll down a long hill in neutral. cops were at the bottom with radar.

rolled on by @ 126 in a 110 zone. thought opps!

didn't get any fine or nothing. I am pretty sure they were targeting people going up the hill on the other lane.

Another interesting thing happen to me last year.

Just changed some upper control arms as the bushes were flogged out. went for a test drive. came around one corner fairly hard to feel the difference, but not mega hard, no sideways action or anything like that, kinda like a firm cruise around the bend.

went past some cops, just waved to them and thought nothing of the corner I took.

anyway nek minut! cops turned around and followed me home, they questioned the cornering. I explained what I was doing.

the weird bit was the cop said "I'll give it to you, you know the road well and can see clearly around the bend, and looks like you know what you are doing" then says to be careful and what not as plenty people die that way.

?? umm ok. not sure if he said go for it or not? Seems like he was saying its fine to do that but don't get caught? Not sure he known that I was no where near the limits of the car's ability to handle that corner, was more than safe at the speed I was doing.

I thought that was an interesting anyway.
