Back in Feb I crunched some numbers over a 24hr period, on 4 aussie VW forums, results as follows:

Aussieveedubbers
73 posts
15788 members

Kombi Club
68 posts
10070 members

Melburg Luft
88 posts
590 members

DSK
38 posts
900 members

Interesting that the forum with the least members is also the most active.

I think the reason AVD has got quiet in recent years is directly due to to the fact that different VW "groups" have found it much easier to start there own forum and get the information that they are really interested in.

Back in the early days of the Australian VW internet movement, thanks to Jim Gow, AVD was the sole source of your VW fix. I suppose, 15 odd years later, it has become a bit generic, with people now looking for specific VW scenes to be a part of.

My 2c.

very true, this forum is quite generic.

I think its good the niche ones are starting to pop up. You find all the best brains. knowledge and help in them forums.

Barls,

I suspect that everybody here has totally missed the point of this thread? Correct me if I am wrong but the colour blue comes to mind.

Yeah well I'm not subtle Barls. Its only quiet north of the border. And in parts of Bowraville of course. Clean sweep coming. Go the Blues!!!

its a start. besides last couple of years the game wasnt even finished and we had cries of queenslander and once it was over there was comments of well played from our supporters and that we would get it next year.
this year nothing, didnt happen, burry our heads again and wait till next year.

Claims of "Well played from your (NSW) supporters"???
Bwah ha ha ha - claims of QLD stole it from us and Ref ripped us off more like it mate. :P We lost it this year - the series that is - its just a chance to start the roll all over again.

Using what you said as a form of bait doesn't work.
You need to appeal to the base form of life, a cockroach, with words and phrases it can understand, like - "we finally won it bro!!!" and "F'in Oath, wes is good, dem Qweerlanders are F***ots", then you may get some response.
To get the response I believe you were after you should have used questions, not statements. Something like "So which state won this years State of Origin?" would work, not comments about activity levels on the forum or the weather.

As for Bowraville, who cares, Toowoomba still like to think of Peter Sterling as theirs, but he played for the southern side. Just because someone wants to play for QLD rather than NSW and they did it in a way that was accepted by the ARL there are a lot of people crying about it. bah, get over it, if you think you need one player that much, you need a lot more than just him.

Besides, it has been quiet in here compared to how it used to seem (to me that is).

Oops,
forgot to add, all this bought to you by the letters TIC, just in case someone was thinking I actually was questioning the intellectual capacity of people who willingly choose to live south of the QLD and north of the VIC borders.

I have notice the forum getting quite was a time when i would be here 4 or 5 times a week now maybe 2 times.
I've been here since 03 only posted 308 posts not a lot really considering. Would post more but not keen to cop shit like everyone else whos actually out there building cars and doing things a bit different and having a go. I occasionally post here and there if i can help someone out but generally it would be in a Pm .I have mates building some really out there things. But they won't post there projects because they know they will get a negative response from a minority of people. 4 wheel disc brakes ABS Canbus system modified axels trailing arms custom made abs rings etc the list goes on all done in a backyard (but to engineering shop standards) only a hand full of people know about this car would love to share pics but not my place just one example.
Maybe there should also be a 3 strike your IP address is banned for 6 months for for people ( trolls )who intentionally make negative and harrasing comments.

It is interesting to note that this forum has 16197 registered member. But how many of them are actually active. Maybe its time for a clean out to get some real numbers possibly inactive for 12 months or 2 years. If they come back reinstate there account.
My point is a lot of people come on this forum but don't post
because in my opinion and experience are sick of the "key board warriors" or what ever you want to call them either attacking them or trying to get a reaction weather jest or some other reason..
HS618 left the forum a real shame and he had a lot to offer I assume he was tired of the negativity , i enjoyed reading his posts and hes not the only one who has gone

To the guys/girls on this fourm who actually go out there and make it happen drag racing hillclimbs or just build a car in there shed to show or for no other reason than because that is what they like doing and makes them happy keep doing it and keep sharing you experience knowledge and project with out you the vw scene in this country would not be.

Just some ideas but now i'll wait for the knee jerk reaction for saying my piece.

It would be good to see more posts maybe i'll start posting a bit more.

yeah i know what you mean by "real out there builds" those cars are my fav, I love seeing good out of the box engineering. I activity look for for this stuff in forums and dismiss all the usual stuff.

sux those people get hammered all the time. I left a few forums because of that problem.

there was a saying I read not long ago that automatically made me think of forums.

"Small minds talk about people
Average minds talk about events
Great minds talk about ideas"

So true!

Ahhh Penguin. Sorry old mate. There was a thoroughly unpleasant little man with the name of Carnavan wrote a stirring piece called "Thats in Queensland!" a year or so ago. Sold a motza south of the border but the Queensland Government thought it so provocative they banned in North of the Tweed.

Mr Carnavan has come up with an apology for his thoroughly precocious and unoriginal sentiments by publishing this

Enjoy.

Hi

I'm away at the moment and don't have full computer access, so I've been posting photos and shit about my travels on Facebook, its so much easier to post multiple photos etc in Facebook.

I don't post unless I have something to say, so I often come on, check topic activity and go.
