Well said!!!
And that means you hillclimb boys too ;-) ;-)

I would not usually feel the need to explain my actions, however, lets put this to bed, because every year the Hillclimb Boys get a "were are you".
1. Cost
It costs approx. $500.00 per round to compete in the NSW Hillclimb Series, being made up of fuel, entry fee, food etc. There are 10 rounds with points
for your best 8, I will compete in only 7 or 8 due to the cost. So that's over $4k if you don,t spend any money on the car at all. I have a wife, 2
kids and a mortgage, so racing is a big luxury for me.
2. The Car
My Beetle is a purpose built Hillclimb car. It has to be to keep up with the very competitive Imp Prod class. there are 260hp atw cars racing against
us. So I have a small pulley that slows down the gen/fan speed. This stops the fan exploding at high rpm and also sneaks a few ponies. However the
car makes engine oil temp quickly, I mean 1 second of hard running equals 1 degree oil temp. So 3 flying laps at SMP 1.8k,s per lap?.
My tyres are Advan GS compound, that's super soft. Awesome for hillclimb events, heat up very fast. 1 lap 1.8k,s would heat them up, 3 laps, no way.
The car is geared close, again for lugging up hills. On a 1/4 mile pass I run out of legs at the 350mtr mark at 7700rpm in 4th gear!.
3. Family
My wife looks after the family while I indulge in my sport, I,m away racing enough.
So there you go, these are my reasons why I would love to come play with my VW mates at SMP but unfortunately can,t. Some may say they are not reasons
but excuses, thats ok.
I hope the event has great weather for all and hope everyone has a incident free weekend. As GT and I allways say at the end of an event. If the car
is straight and drives back onto the trailer at the end of a meeting, you,ve had a good weekend.
Cheers Col

ok Colin we all know racing isn't cheap but I am sure some of the boys could show up plus no one is forcing anyone to do 3 laps it would just be
nice to see some highly tuned aircooled beetles in full flight a our VW nationals..

Hope my post didn't piss you off col as there was no intention too, just stirring!! Was more hoping Nathan read it,lol...
And anyway I know your cars set up only for hillclimbs with no external oil coolers ,small pulley and short ratios etc..I think a beetles hard to keep
cool doing multiple laps even on a cool day with extra coolers etc and annoying having oil lines and coolers as its just more crap to fix, drain
etc......so thumbs up from me to hillclimb setups....and yes the $$$ ad up quickly to do heaps of events,we aren't rich dudes just average wage
earners with a hobby that can hurt the wallet sometimes.
P.s was watching some of your incar last night.gets me stoked!!!

Colin is spot on. A well set up hill-climb Beetle is not suitable for circuit work...and vice versa. Horses for courses.
My Sports Sedan - which was originally a good hill-climb car - was useless at hill-climbs after being modified for circuit racing.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Opinions...
Previous years we have run it as 4 flying laps per session. Would you a) prefer to continue like that or b) go for a 10 minute fixed time session?
You'd get a longer run but less runs.
In either case figure in the scenario that if a car breaks on lap 1 requiring your session to be red flagged you dont get to restart your session.
Under that scenario it might have more of an impact under option a.

Went for a pink slip today, to discover that my brake light switch was dead. Was working last month!
Glad it was discovered today rather than early Sat morning at scrutineering. Would have really dampened my day.

Didn't have a choice but to leave Wakefield this year.
South circuit is great.don't know what you're on about. Grand prix circuit would cost considerably more and wouldn't be able to get enough flag
point marshalls to cover it.
You're right, club vw is not predominantly a motorsport club. Doesn't claim to be. Not sure want the point of your post is. Trying to make me sad?
Nup. I have turned 20 drivers away this year when we struggled for a field at Goulburn. So am I concerned that YOU'RE not going to be there?
The annual anti club vw nationals comments are now just as much a part of the vw scene as wide 5 wheels. I dont see the point. Hope you enjoy your
Nintendo.

In a word...NO.
As I have said, I hope the rain keeps UP - it won't come DOWN then.

Made it into Sydney, but I am not sure how. Even for a Qlder that was rough weather from Taree down. Nothing short of a cyclone. T5 and trailer were
kinda of doing there own thing most of the way. Looks like the weather was moving north and all gone?

My car was at tuner all week for a new ECU, pon cams & E85 tune, not making as much power as before, it seems to be a boost issue, the tuner did
all he could to find the problem so I just bought the bug home to try to find the cause. It has new brakes that need bedding in and needs an alignment
so Im going to run my sons bug now, and look into my bugs problems next week

I know what you mean Craig. I came down that way through that rain this afternoon as well. Only problem I had - blew a fuse. Guess which one - yep,
the wipers. Was raining too heavy to stop, so I followed the tail lights of the vehicle in front. Sure kept the concentration levels up.
