my 71 notch, bought about 6months ago, on a whim, to put away for a rainy day.........not real sure what will become of her
rusty sills, but that's about as far as I've been able to look....bought it unseen, trailered it home, then that big thing called life has gotten in
the road...

She's cool Brendan, I like the colours.
I'd do rust repairs and blend them back into that paint.
Would love to have a look when we come up your way.

Took a look through your photos of the build, awesome job. You should do a build thread using them.

They were on the fasty when I got it (including a nice fitting SAAB spoiler on the boot lid). The clear coat needs re-doing but otherwise are still
nice. No idea if they are still available.

say a group of dudes had too many to drink and thought "My Saab spoiler would look really cool on that type 3 of yours ehhh??"

Not quite, the PO wanted a spoiler on the back, and ddi the hunt at the wreckers. It's not a bad fit. Not the look I like, but it's there now
I think on the mag's, they seem to be out there in 14" and 15" also.

I think you'll find those mags were made by Performance Wheels and called the Bathurst (Globe or 5 Spoke or Star) ..... recall some other wheel maker
did some similar but the Performance Bathurst Globe were the most popular.

Dig that Rat Look Volksmanharry. Those spots are the ones I'm after,
That 70 fasty is sweet, how hard was it to fit the early bumpers?
Looks like a pretty solid project Cruiser.
That paint looks like it will come back up with a polish Sunset Garage. Looks pretty complete too. Nice pickup.

Fitting Early Bumpers
For info guys, I had early bumpers on my late square, see picture above.
The back are a straight bolt up, but the fronts need some reworking of the early bumper mounts. The late Type 3 is 90mm wider between the bumper
mounts/inner guards than the early models. I welded some 50mm x 3mm flat plate onto the existing mounts, then ground the edges down and rounded to fit
into the inner profile of the bumper. As well, had to drill a new hole for the inner mounting bolt, and made slots for where the bumper brackets bolt
to the inner guards.
Also loosely assemble the brackets on the bumper, fit up to the car then tighten everything up.
Hopefully the attached pictures will give you the general idea. They do however sit lower than the late bumpers, so the little reliefs in the front
and rear guards look a bit more prominent and out of place. But overall, the early bumpers look cool, especially with over riders.
Cheers
Jed

We need more Baja type 3's, very under appreciated application.
Friend of mine in the mid 70's used his fast back to drive Toowoomba to Caloundra 3-4 days a week (400km round trip). Back then it was quicker to go
back roads, many dirt roads. Said he did the trip faster in the type 3 than any other vehicle. Did it without problems for years, and always felt
safe.
Was a stock car, and with the suspension and little heavier body was more comfortable than a beetle.
