Spent $4400 after dad talked the guy down from 5k. Quite happy about that seeing most of the other beetles i saw between 1-5k were pretty rusty, some had bits missing. dad rang me at work of an evening to tell me to get to their place the next day (1-2 hour drive) and just buy the thing! Shes a bit of a fussy car but she suits me fine :)

I see the posts have started to get more realistic :)

I paid $3500 for my fist Bus an 8 seater that I paid too much for I reckon I spent another 2-3 before I sold it for same a few years later. Even put a nice Weber progressive carb on it, not reccomended :)

Second one was a camper Paid $2000 for it, had been sitting idle for 3 years. Still it was a solid unit. Ended up dropping a valve so did a rebuild and replaced the interior there went another 2k and the rest. Sold it for about 4k.

Third was a camper, paid 6 buts its solid runs great and the guy just spent 5 on it... poor guy. Have to sell it now because I bought the beut ute.

Fourth.. The Ute !!! Parted with $3500 maybe a touch too much in retrospect but its nice complete rust free and the interior has been redone, cant complain. Ive spent another few hundred so far doing the brakes, servicing it and other bits and pieces. Its at the mechanic today getting the balljoints done and a once over so im expecting another 500 or so there. Still I reckon $4500ish for a nice straight ute is worth it !!!

In the end of the day you can spend what your happy with and I always do. I looked at some crap campers for 6k when i last looked and some nice ones for 5, go figure.... But the trick is finidng one that isnt going to break the bank in the coming months :) I looked at a 78 Camper bewdiful paint, but it needed mechanical work.... The guy was selling with a reco engine, asked him when. He said 10 years ago !!!!! Anyway it ended up selling for over 7k. I offered him 4 knowing the work it needed.

I always think If I had a new(er) car I would loose in excess on 3k a year on it anyway. I have always sold my dubs for the same or more than I paid so my running costs are my depreciation, you wont get that on a new car. And dont forget the FUN FACTOR !!!

Oh nearly forgot a 73 beetle for $2k that replaced a dead 120Y :) It went for 3 years never missed a beat, spent about $5 on some generator brushes !!!

$300 for an oval shell, glass and bootlid in 1989. Then $350 - I think - for an IRS pan to go under it. Then about another $12K doing it all up.... Ouch! It's a little ill at the moment, but I still have it

Free for my first 1963 beetle that I restored over a few years (whilst on the road) - handed down from my brother.

Then there was another freebie from an old couple (current project in members ride section) - spending way too much on it.

The 64 double door panel - $800 which included rust (but no engine).
