OK, I can see a few posts about this, but I thought I would explain it all again in one place.
We exceeded our monthly allowable bandwidth. I think (need to check with Brad) that our monthly quota for bandwidth is 15GB. That is a huge amount but
still we are exceeding it. Bandwidth costs money, and we only have so many sponsors.
Other popular forums get around it by not being able to attach images. Attached images use a lot of bandwidth, and it is why we had to cap the size of
images at 50KB. Maybe we need to reduce this file size further.
Avatars and sig pictures also use bandwidth, that is why avatars have been limited to such a small size (because they load in every post).
As others have said, if the images are not on the aussieveedubbers server (ie not attached images) then they take up no bandwidth. So hosting them
elsewhere and linking to the forum is a good idea.
And the bandwidth issue has nothing to do with peoples posts disappearing. bandwidth is the loading of info as you view it, whereas storing of post
info on the server simply uses server space. Old posts do eventually get deleted one way or another and that will effect your post total.
Another forum I am on has contributor, sponsor and normal membership. contributors and sponsors donate money to the forum to help pay for bandwidth
and server space. They then get some added features and something to tell others they are a sponsor / contributor. What do people think of this idea?

In the future i think that when having dedicated picture posts (such as the 14 page dotvw post) it would be a good idea to use remote image hosting
services such as photoisland. |

felt a little shattered, dunno how many times i checked from a few different locations. The remote hosting idea is great. Shouldn't anyone who
has an avatar know how to do this? Cos i know mine is stored nowhere on here.

That shouldn't affect it though from what little I understand about it. anywho I didn't have the withdrawl symtoms from AVD as much cause I
spent the weekend at Fraser with all the buggies and had a blast zipping around the place. Fraser Island kicks butt! Just don't hit Eligh Creek
at 80km while airborne and you'll have fun! :o |

I don't know if you would've wanted to be in the Dozer just as we were airborne and about to splash down in the creek, you would've
heard both Jason and I screaming/swearing and trying to grab stuff that won't move! it was fun though....after the event.
Sadly no Mick H I do not have any pics as i didn't bring a camera. I would've loved to get a pic of my baja sitting next to this massive
chev ute in Rainbow beach. I'm not kidding the top of the ute tray was higher than my baja. The tires were twice the height and width of mine
easily. But lots of other people had cameras and i'm suprised there isn't a thread with pics yet. |

*Remote photo hosting instructions*
First, you will need to sign up with PhotoIsland ( http://www.photoisland.com )
Once the pictures you would like to post are uploaded to PhotoIsland, click on the photo that you would like to post.
Scroll all the way down. On the bottom left hand corner of the list of options, you will see a option that says, "Link for Web Page, etc.",
click on it.
A seperate screen will pop up with the Pictures URL.
In this seperate screen, click the button, "Highlight Text". Then copy the text that is there.
When composing your aussieveedubbers post click the
icon above the text box and paste in the image url.
Note: Image urls stay active for 3 months.
It is probably not a good idea to have too many images hosted on any one account, because they will probably delete you. |
