yeah i can't beleive where my kombi will go now but when a crossing is washed out or a tree down and you have to turn around on a narrow bush
track... always one wheel spinning. Once i worked myself to
exhaustion trying to get out til it got dark...so then i got a beer out of the fridge, cooked a steak and went to bed. next morning with a clear head
i was out and away in 10 minutes....love my kombi

I bought an old white 58 splitty panelvan which was jacked up for off road years ago off the fella who had the lifted green one(darren from memory)Had
plenty of good times off road in it and up the beach, hit the worlds biggest tree when it went straight ahead on a muddy corner once, knocked most of
it out and kept using it till the engine blew coming back from double island point, be interested to know what happened to it after i sold it to
someone in ipswich years ago.

There is a red and white Baja splitty here at Mt gravatt. I think it's a panel with windows cut into it. I'm just waiting to see a for sale sign on
it and then i'll pounce! I couldn't imagine driving a jacked up splitty on the beach though? they wouldn't perform all that well, would they?

A split set up right is awesome on the beach. Get rid of the swng axle box and go IRS then with good tryes and bal joint front end with disc brake
conversion they are retty much unstoppable.
My cousin's 63 south African Panel Van has all bay window running gear under with renault tranny and a nice warm 2.0lt wedged in the back. With 12.5
33" BFG Mud Terrains on the back it will go just about where you point it.(if you are game enough)

My old 58 split was a standard reduction g/box setup, when i arived at the beach north of noosa to go to rainbow it was high tide and easter weekend,
it drove the whole way up the beach in soft sand(flat out) and even had to go up dunes at times to get around bogged 4wds, i can tell you if i had to
stop it would have been all over but it made it the whole way without a prob, and turned a lot of heads and emabarrassed a few 4wds in the making.

actually it lowers the center of gravity, picture above was of my old bus, did it to increase axel droop in those woops and to keep my cv's happy.
did so many km's in that thing, couldn't afford to be chewing those things out all the time (besides is really not that low to begine with because
of the length of the axels and the big tyres, never did bottom it out)

& the sister splitty , carried my race mini to Targa Tasmania rally,,, followed as service crew the whole rally, then carried it back to brisbane
again,,, work horse is an understatement :-) I bought this car as a bare shell from old mate Clayton in carina for a carton of xxxx largies &
skull dragged it out from his back yard & built it up from there, sold it about 10 years later, but bough it back from a fella in camp hill &
had another go with the old girl,,, it`s down in Lismore with some hippy doing it back up now
