so yeah. with the creative bone. correct tools. and right skills. half of the costs you have put down there would not be anywhere near as high correct?. and why do u require a new fuel tank?

half cut

I went to Swan wreckers on friday ask a few prices
half cut ej20t manual or auto $2500
ej22 half cut $2800
Go figure??
If anyone is considering buying a half cut i'd be interested in the gearbox if it's manual

EJ22 should not be that expensive I would have thought. I am sure you can get them Sydney or Melb for $2000 and maybe as low as $1500.

You gotta remember something VERY important here....

The market here in Perth is VERY small and the popularity of the engines dictates the cost. And the EJ20T that was quote is more than likely an RS front cut, which is more than likely 5 or more years old. Subaru has been making these engine for a very long time and they haven't actually put an EJ20T into a Liberty for years. The EJ22 on the other hand is a current engine and they are in very short supply.

Neil...They are ok, but....,
Very old tech (20+ years now!), no CW crank, parts are getting harder to find and they don't make a lot of power for the work.

On a postive note, they are compact, the sump doesn't hang too low and are an EZ fit into a bug. I wouldn't think about sticking one in anything else, except maybe a cheap bush basher or a light trike...Not like the ones you make!!!

71SB...They came out of the Leone, Brumby and Sports Wagon. I think the last one was made sometime in the late 80's or early 90's...Not too sure.

71superbug, check out my website

http://offroadvw.net/bajawes/linktoV6.htm

have a look around, also check out the january 2003 page, it's got a cost breakdown of what my conversion cost me. You can see it can end up relatively cheap if you do alot yourself.

I already had a kombi box so it wasn't part of the conversion. It would be $2000 for a rebuilt and beefed up 6-rib tops (not going to full aftermarket gears though).

I got a 2lt kombi box, with 4-spider diff, 0.70:1 albins 4th gear set, and completely rebuilt for under $2000.

Albins gear sets were $350 each when I bought mine.

My 2lt is doing just fine, but I don't drop the clutch on the road or try to do burnouts. Ask me again in 10 yrs and I'll tell you how the 2lt handles 200HP.

I know a guy with a 330HP at the wheels kombi (13B turbo). He broke the stock gears in the 2lt kombi, and is now running a full set of albins gears and it seems to be doing ok.

jesus. 330rwhp is quite a bit. that sure aint a standard 13b turbo. and the MOST amount of Horsepower i would be getting is 200. and thats if i went with ej20t conversion. but i am thinking just turbo 1600 for the moment.
