When I got my first bug at 17,I didn't know anything about them, I was drawn to them because the were unique, and always stood out amongst other
cars, both in shape and sound ( ahhh that sweewt whistle, and some what rough sound).
So what did I do? I contacted a club, by letter (to cut a long story short), the whole club turned up at my house lining both sides of the roads. I
had no idea there where people out there like this WOW. It sounded like 50 Harleys pulling up.
That was nearly 20 years ago, and it just keeps getting better.

wel, i wanted to travel, i wanted a unique looking car, and i had sh1t all budget. cant stand (or afford) new cars, just too easy to drive. i like
challenges, like a 86 laser with 3 people plus luggage and an unserviced 3spd auto at 100kph on the freeway, or an 84 subi doing 70kph in second so
the engine wont stall after dousing the electrics in high pressure water. i cant stand to drive boring easy cars, i like a challenge. it is also cool
the response i get from people. most of the peopel at school think i am nuts driving 'that thing', but my best friend, a holden nut loves it (see,
by owning a VW you dont have to worry about ehat ford/holden thing!)

1) They're affordable... cheap to buy, cheap to maintain (You don't think so? Check the prices against newer vehicles, or even older european
makes)
2) My kombi will take me nearly anywhere, without the high running costs of a 4x4
3) I like the character of VWs, particularly kombis
4) When maintained, they are SUPER reliable! And when something does go wrong, they are simple to get back on the road to limp home (again, compare
them to a newer vehicle that costs 10 times as much)
My kombi can carry me and eight scouts (with all their bikes or camping gear, or BOTH!!), a metre and a half of firewood PLUS trailer, me the
girlfriend and three kids AND all our camping gear for a week or more without a trailer (and still has an empty roofrack for extras). Normally, I have
three seats in the front and three at the back, which leaves me enough space in the middle to cart large objects for friends - I was asked to pick up
three windsurfers because I have a full-length roofrack, I just opened the tailgate and loaded them in on my way home from work! I still had an empty
roofrack, and a towbar!
But the BEST thing is when I'm out in the bush camping or just taking the 'family' for a drive, and 4x4 drivers say "How the f#ck did you get
here???"
I don't think there is any other vehicle on the road that is capable of being such an all-rounder in such an individual and stylish manner as a
kombi, and on my budget. :thumb:thumb:thumb

Comfy at the drive in too. Lay the bed down, open the rear hatch, turn up the surround sound and enjoy.
Good for those drive in nights where you pay by the car too. Can get quite a few people in, and deck chairs for thenm to sit on, and the esky and the
BBQ and wait theres more. A free set of steak knives.

Only because my brother got one as his first car.
- I hated the look of them, hated the noise
hated the image.
-
If I had not gone for a ride in the little Beetle with the
1600 TP & Holley Bug spray,
I would still hate them.
-
Now, cant imagine driving any thing else,
1. They are Light.
2. They are Strong.
3. Motors can be modified to produce 3 times
standard HP.
4. Very surprising to other motorists.
5. Different - Unique.
etc

Well you have to admit there is no other car like them. Volkswagen have always had sensible cars, never been influenced by fads or trends. And with
proper maintanence do the job they were designed to do for decade's.
Theres heaps of them, and they get under your skin like no other car can. Once you drive a VW your hooked for life, you may come and go, but you will
always Love them.
Thats why I have three of them, and I always will!
Plus you meet great PPL who own them every where
