Col, good call on the UHF radios.....we used them to good effect on the Beach run, much clearer than 27Mhz.
Tazzielittle, last valla we left Brisbane about midnight Thursday and arrived just as the sun came up....will probably do the same this year.

I'll be going in my 62 Bug but as usual I'll probably stay in town.
I recently bought a handheld Uniden 040 UHF radio from Disk Smith for $99. There are cheaper ones but this covers 40 channels and has a scan feature
etc. I use it when I go out in my Jeep and it has a range of 3 to 5km, defiantley worth it for any sort of convoy etc.
Cheers
Steve

UHF / CB
In short no a UHF is not the same as a CB. But one could now argue with teh reduced cost of UHF handhels that it is the new CB ( Citizen Band ) radio
... You can nottalk on a CB ( 27 Mhz Band ) to a UHF. |

I got a Uniden handheld for Christmas... I think mine was the 042 model, which is VOX capable... very cool if you have VOX headset, you can have the
headset on and just talk when you want to - no pressing buttons and hanging onto the thing either. I advise not singing along to your radio though

I have only had a chance to use mine once (Apollo Bay cruise), but it was awesome. Very cool to be able to communicate with the rest of the
convoy.
BTW the 042 was around $130, and the VOX headset was $99... more of an investment, but R didn't want me driving and chatting

I will be cruising up on Friday as well. Last time I did the scenic route via Tamworth, Armidale and Dorrigo, which is a great drive if you've
never done it. Since I now have, it cuts down on Friday night drinking time so I'm heading straight up the coast highway this time.
Friday night in the Valla pub - be there or be square. The steaks are great. Birchall won a case of beer and I won the karaoke singing....
