Was a good day at the day of the vw. Picked up some headlight eye lids and some scratch plates for the doors. Also a rear cheese grater for the
exhuast and a little empi ariel ball.
Couple of photos taken a day or so after. |

Hey,
been a while since an update so i thought what the hey. The QUI-859 plates are gone and i have slimlines front and rear TED-882. Dont worry, no empi
stripe coming. Having a few dramas mechanically but all is running as sweet and smooth as a sewing machine now. The adjustable front beam is in the
shed still looking at me but that shouldnt be far away now. I got all excited and replaced the front seats with some out of a 88' Laser TX3 so its
heaps more comfortable to drive, now with height adjust, lumber support, base tilt option and reclinability.... I am 6ft 3" and with the seat all the
way back i can only just clutch in all the way.... Its lovely. Photos wont be far off. Anyway, till then. Take care everyone.

nice one! looks a lot like mine.
Costa's right about the decklid, the bonnet is also a 63 and later item as it is missing the crest and has a platform for the emblem.
Also the front indicators are 64 and later items.

Doesn't really matter what year though, its close enough. Check the wheels for a date as well. if you take the hubcap off there is usually a date
stamped on the wheel.
You shuold be able to identify it by the VIN anyway

Being a Custom, the fuel guage is a ring in any way-with a bit of luck it will still have the original speedo-check the date code on that. From what I
can see from the pics, you have definately got a lot later model than a 62-Bonus !!!!!!!

All in all, regardless of what it is i still love it.
I know i promised more photos, i just havn't had the camera in my hand at the right time lately. Another update. i pissed the cd player off that it
had, and replaced it with a Sony cassette headunit and a 6 disc sony stacker unit. It all works awesome and the install dont look half bad. I am now
running my 12" Sub and pioneer amp in behind the back seat. It aint a sound car or a Db drag car either but is nice to listen too and can go loud
enough to drown out the rattles. :thumb
I still have to replace the front speakers, Currently 4" Akai's, will replace with some 6" splits fingers crossed. Anyway enough from me for now.
Photos real soon. i promise.

How much did you pay for the laser seats?? And how did you mount them?
On stock rails?
They look like just the ticket for my bug..

I remember seeing this one at DOVW, was just near mine Nice ride! I
remember it by the plywood door cards, very unique. Are you going to get new ones or cover them in something?

I scored the seats for $175 the pair. The original seats have been taken out and the bottom rail remains. There are two holes in the front of the
rails on the floor. I have some angle steel and matched the two holes and bolted the angle to the floor like so (No new holes have been drilled), then
i have modified the front seat brackets to sit on the flat part of the angle and have bolted them as such. The back inner seat mount lines up with the
tunnel and is bolted accordingly, however the outter seat foot, i have no access to but sits firm agains the door sill area and is out of sight. They
aint going anywhere, and if i chose to remove the seats i can slide the originals back in and no one would be any the wiser. (Hope all that made
sence)
The door cards i hate, i have intentions of covering them with a vinyl but i need to design a speaker pod for the lower half and i will be running
with a theme on the door which is also in the making. All in good time :thumb (Thats what i keep telling myself anyway)

Hey All,
here it is, finally lowered. Only one spline on the back and just high enough on the front so the 165's dont scrub "MUCH". lol

Looks sweet. You've done a good job. As for the 165s, dump those for some 135's and go lower at the front!!! Love the black and white pics.

Coming to the conclusion that the beetle is actually a 66 model which is crap because i wanted a god damn late 50's, early 60's. Oh well. Will find
out for sure. I'll get the body ID and see if someone can tell me what it all means.

The speedo, the front rims and the spare all match 66 and the back stockies in the shed are also 11/66.
The Vin number is 196822013

Man mine was a 66, and it was cool as.. Mate, things like small indicators and bonnet Wolfsburg Crests are highly over rated... :P
I Used to know what the chassis number all was.. You are right though, firstly the 19 means it was made in Australia, and the 6 is that it was made in
1966. The other numbers was factory options, colours, motor, etc.. but I dunno what it all is now.. getting too old.. :cussing
