Hey I never did ! I reckon its a gerat idea too.

A little off topic, but did you know there is a guy with a White pearl beetle with 13b turbo in it in Perth ? Has been around for ages, has the mazda instruments in the bug dash and aingle nut wheels. I *think* that either formaz or rotomotion did the conversion, but dont quote me on that.

I did a 12A rotary conversion to my callook suicide door beetle back in 1988 . It was a great conversion and very fast . when I took out the stock 12A and fitted a peripheral ported 12A , it was insane . the thing didn't seem to wake up until it reached 7000rpm and then you couldn't hold it back . I would quite regulary rev it to 11000rpm . Easily reached 195kph in 3rd gear @ 9500rpm with 4.375 diff . It must have been so threatening to the legend VW racers of CLUB VW ILLAWARRA back then , as they kicked me out of the club . NO ROTARIES ALLOWED !! as fast as it was on the street , I attended many hillclimbs with it . At Huntley hillclimb (west dapto) I would always win my class with a best time of 30.7secs . I now run my VW powered there in the same class and hold the track record for 2litre to 3 litre sports sedans of 24.45secs . The VW engine develops so much more torque that I would not go back to a rotary . saying that I still would not discourage you from trying the conversion yourself , Its a lot of work but well worth it . If you need any advise or assistance , don't hesitate to call me on 02 42725644 .:blah:blah

A turbo will retifiy some of the lack of torque issues. :thumb

to be fair, I think it is more than capable of 8s, and they were only certification runs. his real issue was chronic wheelspin everytime the car came on boost. That was on low boost too. he was sent home coz he crossed the centre line. He doesn't even know how much power it's making coz it wheelspins on the dyno.

I don't think it will break 10's.............................as for the wheelspin on the Dyno............plenty of 1000 + hp cars at the summernats that don't seem to have this problem !

Good luck to him for trying :thumb

Hii CRAIG you seem to think that my car will only be able to run 10s....what gives you this impression?......surely you can understand that a car with a pauter turbo nitrous set up with a lummus chassis is capable of a 9s pass......therefore you are implying that either me or my team are incompetant......you seem know a lot about certain people thet you do not even know .....
by the way the car ran 10.40 at 145mph first full pass..being the expert on drag racing that you are surely you will know that 145mph is good for a 9s pass...the car did not dyno due to excessive neg camber and incorrect toe ....hope you do your research before you comment next and time..,,TIME will tell if you are correct about the ET....
SOON TO PROVE YOU WRONG ...REGARDS TRENT DEMOS

I know it is a little off topic, but I had a hell of alot of trouble
trying to stop wheelspin on the dyno and I only had 188hp
There was no way it was going to work with slicks.
We ended up using road radials and strapping it down on
a wooden block.
I guess it depends on the type of dyno and rear suspension.
Don't take these peoples comments to heart Trent,
there is alot of deep issues they have from years of rivalry.
Just like religion and politics!

Dave thanx for explanation
.....these negative comments are not necessary....

some people will never understand dynos....there are so many variables....strapping as you mentioned...tyre type ,pressure and width .....ramp rate...how engine comes on boost.....condition of dyno rollers...and the list goes on.....

our problem was mainly due to too soft rear spring rate causing squat and in turn...too much neg camber....

the other problem this caused was that when we ran close loop on ecu....the tyres turned hard at 6000rpm....ecu then dumped fuel to compensate and then the engine fell over ....end of run....
we could only get a decent run at 14psi.....waste of time on a methanol engine with intercooler....fuel mix would not burn....then broke down.....will chassis dyno next time.....if we need ...too hard to tune with turning tyres.......and risk a problem

If you would like to reply please do so at my thread......thanx Dave......

Hi Trent

PAC Performance use a hub dyno, this elimnates wheel spin. Have you considered using one of these?
