Just watched two old favs on the weekend. Both had beetles in them.

1. clockwork orange… when the main man and his drouges are fanging around at night after bashing the other guys in the old theatre, they run a couple of cars off the country lane. One of which is a beetle. Don’t worry he gets whats coming to him.
2. blues brothers. Just after elwood gets jake out of Joliet and picks him up in the mt prospect special, they get stopped at one of the Chicago elevating bridges. The first car in the line is a beetle.

Classics…haha

OK one to look out for at the end of the year...Broken Flowers starring Bill Murray

I saw it a few weeks ago at a film festival here of Jim Jarmusch movies....it won the Grand Prix (2005) at the Cannes Film Festival

It's such a brilliant little film... Jim Jarmusch makes clear that the journey, not the destination, is what matters to him ... Murray plays ladies man Don Johnston, the classic Don Juan who knows his appeal is slipping with age and may not really care, putting up only token resistance when his current lover, Sherry (Delpy), leaves him. Don seems unfazed, content to run out the clock in seclusion, listening to music, watching TV and living off the wealth he gained as a computer whiz

Jim Jarmusch wow.... he's such an artist with the way he painted this incredible picture of a brief period in one man's life....the music...everything was so right

....go take the journey with Don when it comes out....and you HAVE to see the very end of the movie...I nearly screamed out with delight...it really made me go all funny!!! :D

Not telling....but considering what this thread is about you'd better go see it

Unfortunately it's not in the trailor :( :lol

What about on one episode on MONK where a greenie is killed and him and his volkswagen end up on the back of a truck and they get tipped off on the freeway. It was a 1971 beetle. I forgot the colour, but it was apparently going at 200 kmh. I don't think i can see that in a 1200cc beetle. It was a 1200 because of the exhaust system. By the way, when the beetle gets tipped off the truck it does a flip and lands on it's back. What a waste of a beetle!!!!

There is a release at the video store called "Riding the Bullet". It is based on a Stephen King novel. The movie is less than great but does feature a two toned red and white kombi in a stunt scene. The kombi loses control and spins a very unbelievable amount of times and ends up damaged in a ditch. Kombi abuse - it pains me to see it!

I have a song in my head. It's called Convoy It's about a convoy of truckers running police blocks which mentions that in the convoy are "13 long haired friends of Jesus in a chartreuse micro bus."

"That's a big 10-4, Rubber Duck."

another classic??

the omen.
opening scene with gregory peck in the car driving to the hospital theres a white '69+ beetle next to them. then when they leave the hospital after arranging the fatal chile swap, theres a dark green bay camper in the bg. this camper pops up in other scenes too.

When the Jews return to Zion
And a comet fills the sky
The holy roman empire rises
And you and I must die
From the eternal sea he rises
Creating armies on either shore
Turning man against his brother
‘till man exists no more.

there is a karmann ghia up for 'auction' that has the storage compartment filled with cocaine.

also in the movie 'welcome to the jungle' with the rock and that guy from american pie.

i think theres a karmann ghia in there. or is it a t3 wagon? anyway...gets shot up i think cos the guy from american pie is hiding behind it in a gun fight.

I was in Enmore the day they made the coca-cola ad where a kombi gets filled with water...
They had two similar vehicles, only one had the insides stripped and fitted instead with a fibreglass pool..complete with plug-hole!(wish i had that one during the heatwave)
Filmed in a yard next to the Enmore Theatre in the rear lane.

Various dune-buggys in 'Mad Max 2' and I remember dimly a dune-buggy raid scene in 'Storm Boy'.
and 'Return of Revenge of the Nerds' (not sure of exact title) featuring a country buggy with 'nerd' style Bond film secret-functions.

In the X-Files the Lone Gunmen drive a kombi... but they broke its nose after crashing into a pole while trying to smuggle scully's kid away for her. :(

Oh... and the original Italian Job... as in the good one with Michael Caine and not the stupid new one that's not even in Italy... has lots of great cars in it... except for the one scene where a beetle has a little accident all is well :)

Many, many years ago, some friends and I decided that, "there's one in everything" & that's what we say when we spot one. Now our children do it!

Really, when it comes to tv and movies, (even the news) it would probably be far more realistic to count the ones that don't have some vw or variant in them. (trikes and industrial engines included)

Matt.
