Henry Spicak was going to build mine and refused to look at any box other than the 3.88. SSP.

Hey choppa - troy is now running porsche CV's I believe. His t2 cv conversion was very interesting - its actually a re drilled t1 stub axle (such that you can bolt a t2 CV up to it). I didnt think you could do that, but apparently you can.

no use going porsche cv look at the ridiculous prices on them. most of the off road vw guys will use them because they put them through hell vibration will kill anything ask mudbashing about the cost new shafts cv's, really not worth it, just stick with t2 cv they are cheap and can be found anywhere

try leons in brissy.

From what i can remember it was about $350 (could be up to 450) for each custom gear. + box rebuild + diff (approx 450) + side plate. if you want tmore xact costs u2u me, (as its not fair to put up prices for public review)

I've seen a few VWs with universal driveshafts for high HP applications, although a mate reckons CVs are actually stronger in a straight line than a uni joint. I have also heard it said that kombi CVs will handle up to 400rwkw. apparently they uses them in sports-sedans.

BTW, offroad guys only use porsche CVs for the extra angles they allow, they are only negligably stronger than kombi ones.

Most importantly get someone who knows what they are doing to build it for you, there are a lot of little tricks in building a gearbox that lasts. Id Reccomend shimo who now works at dunhams in wollongong. He's built the boxes for some VERY high powered VW's and knows his stuff.

Hey 71...Are you sure your gonna be legal in WA?
I don't think you will be, but I am problably wrong.
I'm sure you can rego just about anything, it just may cost you a packet.
I remember when I had a chat to the dude who built that white 12A Turbo bug, he reckon under no circumstance could he upgrade to a 13B turbo...And he did a load of work under that car! Hate to see you blow your bucks on this project.

But if you have looked into it, and all is good....Just get into it and see what happens!!

FUCH your early!

nothing is illegal in WA providing your car is able to handle it.

Found these figures,
Mazda 13B race, 242 lb (109 kg), 2-rotor race motor, with accessories,
Vs,
VW Type IV: 311 lb (141 kg)

Now it probably doesn't include the radiator and coolent, but....

mmm, food for thought
