Just out of curiosity what sort of work will it take to get something like that engineered and street legal? Im assuming you will have to get it blue
slipped. Just asking because someone i know is having this sort of drama with a car with less mods and power. |

The removal of the original firewall would cause problems I would imagine. Dont know about the aluminium beam either? Not trying to pick on your
project, just curious what the engineer (if required) says. Do T4 conversions technically need engineering, even in stock form? |

When it comes to engineering, it's all about how the engineer interprets the rules. Remember these are guidelines and the RTA can make exceptions.
It's all about asking the "right " questions. Talk to your engineer and explain to them what you would like to acheive. Most are willing to advise
on how you can do it.
Cheers

I have been consulting an engineer during the build process and have found a few hick-ups , but a small amount of thought and planning helped get
around these problems . Firstly you are only allowed to increase the engine capacity on a vehicle , by 2.5 x the vehicle origional weight when using a
turbo charged engine . With the oval being on a 1967 floorpan it is classed technically by RTA as a 1967 beetle . The standard weight of a 1967
beetle is 780kgs , therefore ( 2.5 X 780 = 1950 ml ) The 2.9 litre engine is built into an AP engine case so as far as RTA and the engineer is
concerned it is a 1795 ml kombi engine . Secondly , engine and transmission assembly are NOT allowed to be solid mounted for an engineers report . We
have to do a full assembly and get the bug running with rubber mounts and after the engineers report is obtained , remove it all and fit the solid
mount and strap kit so that we can drag race it without the engine jumping out of the bug . Thirdly , all seat belt anchorages have to be approved .
Fourthly , flashing turn signal indicators must be fitted to all corners of a vehicle for an engineer report that consists of an engine conversion .
For this I will fit small aftermarket indicators to the bumper brackets , but will probably remove them later so as the oval looks more origional with
working semaphores . Fifthly , working windscreen washers must be fitted to the bug , so I will reluctantly fit a washer nozzle to the windscreen
lower panel . Tandem circuit brake master cylinder and disc brakes must be fitted to the front , but that to me is just common sense . WILL KEEP YOU
ALL POSTED ON PROGRESS !!:jesus

Ah so it won't really be an engineered and legal car then...
Such a shame the mods will happen after engineering. I was hoping to see a sub 11sec VW that is really legal.

so will it be classified as not legal Matt if the indicators are removed and the engine mounts are solid ? I can see where this would really make the
oval illegal . For a blue slip it is not required to have insulated mounts , only a requirement from an engineer . The oval will still be street legal
with full rego and engineer reports and driven !!:repuke

the cut that has been made to the firewall must be reinforced to get engineer approval . I have already manufactured an alumimium chequeplate housing
which totally seals off the engine from the cabin area and it also strengthens the firewall area where it has been cut . Will post pics soon .:duh

If the engineering and rego says it is 1.8L and you have 2.9L then no, it is definitely not legal.
I'm not saying it aint gonna be a good car, just it won't exactly be a fully legal and engineered car which is what you said in your first post.

Such a pity the jump from Modified Production to ICV is so difficult with a Beetle. Would be awesome to see a "truly" legal car of the performance
this one should produce.

nice work wayne, are you going to run the electric water pump continuously are wait for temp saturation then have it start with a temp switch.that cc
to orignal weight is a killer in vic we never had it before but because all the states are lining up we,ll cop it know ,what I,m doing is putting a
1974 l-bug pan under my oval for the higher weight ratio but using a mitsu L300 double wishbone suspension so I can also run 7" wheels on the front
and a complete 944 rear end to comply with the porsche rear track front track I can comply with the mitsu but I,m narrowing it 80mm.I thought you
might of used a similar inlet manifold as your drag car but smaller diameter and is the exhaust going to be 4-1 or 4-2-1 the later good for pulsing
being a street car aswell .

before making comments 56astro maybe you should do your homework on the subject . THE GENE BERG TROPHY is a category for the FASTEST STREET REGERISTED
VW . The car must be RTA REGERISTED with the ENGINE & CHASSIS NUMBERS MATCHING THE REGO PAPERWORK . The COOLING SYSTEM must be intact . The engine
must run on PUMP PETROL ONLY . Only STREET TYRES to be used . The BODY & DOORS MUST BE STEEL . GLASS must be fitted , no perspex . SPARE WHEEL
must be fitted . The car must be able to be DRIVEN @ 110KPH FOR 15 MINS .
I have highlighted the areas where the oval will comply , just incase you get confussed !!

the water pump for the intercooler will run continously when the ignition is switched on . the exhaust will be 4-2 only as I am running a split
exhaust housing on the turbo . Much quicker spool up !!

As a hotrodder you should know that there are many registered cars out there that have pushed the barriers with regards to engine capacities, example
you can push the holden 308 out to 400 cubic inches but visually it still looks like a 308 and the engine numbers still match. If a cop/rta officer
pulled you over do you think they would be able to tell??
You know the game like the rest of us
Keep pushing the boundaries Hypovw, cause we already live in a restricted democracy where the government and authorities tell us what we can and
can't do......
Cheers
