Tyre kicking? Interesting choice of words. Would you commit thousands for something you'd only seen a low resolution pic of? In my book actually seeing it in person (and kicking it's tyres, and giving it a good look all over) is the sensible thing to do. So no I won't bid, I'll hope and pray that noone else bids, and then I WILL go and see it for myself. If I could have got there to look by now then I would have already done so.

Yeah purple Martin sorry dude but someone has bid. So looks like it is going to a new home. I know you are very keen but I can't take the chance that you won't buy later when someone else is prepared too now. I also realise that potentially you may have paid more than it eventually sells for but that's my loss. I need it gone to pay off some debt. Unfortunately i have had this for sale for a while and now there is heaps of interest in it. Time must be right I'd say. I do understand the whole seeing a car before buying it though.

Cheers mate.

Hi type_one, yes someone has bid so you are guaranteed of a sale, which is good, I'm pleased for you.

Now I have to think very carefully about whether I will bit without having seen it... tough decision.

Anyway, congrats on the sale, whoever gets it :)

Mate honestly if you have doubts about bidding then there is your answer. I'd rather you not bid and be upset you didn't get it than upset you won and it didn't meet your standards. In saying that it is a nice car. I am an honest seller and would rather you be happy with the purchase than me make heaps of money. I have actually talked a lot of 14-15 year old girls out of this car purely because i personally think they had no idea what they were getting into. They were going for the whole cute factor rather than the retro old car that of course is going to need regular standard maintenance if it is to stay on the road.

In saying all the the wife, myself and most importantly the bloody BANK would love you to bid. All proceed are going to American Express. What a fantastic charity to give too. :thumb

Well I decided to bid, and I won! (It was the kombi in one of the photos that swung it for me: proof that he's a serious dubber). I'm trying to call him to arrange pickup but his phone's engaged.

Mate i can assure you I have done heaps to this car. It is so sweet to drive. I would love to dearly keep it but my van is more practical for me with the stuff i am always moving and something had to go to pay off the Amex. An agreement i made before my wedding which has come and gone and the car is still here.

I am sure you will love the car.

I'm absolutely stoked to have won the eBay auction, and I can't wait to pick it up on Saturday! My gf is also very pleased, she says it looks great in the pics, and as always she's right :D

See you on Saturday mate! And I've sent you a U2U asking for the VIN and engine number please.

kkk, the final price is $5655

I bid on it too.
Now I'm getting emails from ebay asking me if I want it as a second
chance deal because the winning bidder backed out?

Hey Untermensch. Haven't heard of that name for ages. Means sub human in German right. Well that's what i was told.

Anyway.
Mate i am the seller and definitely haven't sent you any second chance offers. Be careful mate sounds like you are being scammed.

Purple Martin don't panic mate it still yours. Either Untermensch is being scammed by someone and if he is he should report it or he is trying on a scam.

Possibly, I did receive an identical email from ebay regarding something else
I missed out on. Looked genuine. But so do some of the scam ones I get asking me to verify credit card details etc.

Check it out, could be sus:

Dear veedubdealer,

You expressed interest in an item titled " 1958 VW beetle restored " (Item 7153194283) by bidding, however the auction has ended with another member as the high bidder. In compliance with eBay policy, the seller of that item is making this Second Chance Offer to you at your bid price of AU $5,555.00. The seller has issued this Second Chance Offer because either the winning bidder was unable to complete the transaction or has duplicate items for sale. If you accept this offer just contact the seller at Michaelsilverson@cs.com. Do not use the Respond Now Button through eBay because the seller will not be able to respond in due time, just copy and send this text to Michaelsilverson@cs.com for a faster response which will increase your chances to purchase this item.If this isn't the first second chance offer you've received contact directly the seller at: Michaelsilverson@cs.com.

Thank you,
joegress

It's a scam alright, the same email address appeared on the other item I missed. Gotta be careful huh?

I also got an email just after the auction ended that looked like it was from eBay, it told me that another eBayer had contacted me wanting to buy my new item from me. The email said that I should beware that the other eBayer might be committing fraud. The email then gave me a link to follow to update my eBay details. Since I'd had no contact from another eBayer I assumed the email was a trick and deleted it. Gotta be VERY careful!

Report it

Both matters should be referred to ebay, as yes they are a scam and ebay have dedicated staff investigating and prosecuting same. If no-one reports it then the matter cant be rectified and people cant be alerted that this is happening.

Report it for sure. You just forward the email to the fraud email box. They can sometimes track the dickheads down.
