Yeah I do wanna keep it low slung.
Im in contact with the dude who owns the Yellow one in the pics.
He is sending me a scanned copy of the Invader Manual KOOL! hehe
But he tells me any Beeltle floorpan will bolt under the body, but I was sort of hoping for a type3 floorpan and mechanicals so I have better and
stronger running gear.
My old '64 Beetle had a warm 1300 in it and I blew something like half a dozen gearboxes in the 12months or so I had it.
I'd rather do more driving then more fixing nowadays.
I would like to fit a V6 Commodore engine to it but if an old 1300 box shytes itself hooked up to a 1300?
If possible Id also like to use an auto?
I am disabled and hate shifting gears these days. lol
A Subaru engine would be nice but I am somewhat dubious about anything water cooled and alloy in the one sentence.
But my wifes VN pips my 308 VK Wagon so I am keen on the V6 if I can find a suitable gearbox/ diff combo, maybe a Kombi setup with the reduction gears
so I can run monster tyres to fill those rear guards? hehe
Will hafta wait and see until after I sell my V8 VK off after the walkie kits fitted up to it and repainted...
Cheers, Pig (BTW love ya avator pmsl) |

Type 3 floor pan is different to beetle floor pan, so you'd have to modify the body to fit. (their longer + wider)
Best to stick to beetle. Go for a later floor pan with IRS rear. Much better suspension + the later gear box's are stronger. Probably best to avoid L
bugs with strut front ends as it won't work with that body (unless you want to graft an earlier front end to it). If the beetle GB is not good enough
you can graft in a Kombi GB onto a beetle floor pan and have all the strength you want.
As for motors, have a search through the tech pages, there are loads of other motors fitted to beetles. Subaru is a popular one due to
cost/power/weight/compact etc and same layout as stock motor.
There are a few others out there but you need to consider legality issues and all that weight hanging behind the rear wheels if you go the V6
option.
Baja Wes did a good job with a MX6 V6, but that will be lighter and more compact than a Commodore one.
Don't rule out a VW motor though, with a light kit and mild type 1 motor in, it will perform quite well without a huge expense.
