yeah mate, works great! maybe a lil bit too much bias to the front, they lock slightly before the rears. mind you the rear hasn't beded in yet, and they're still on the initial fluid bleed. also using the standard ford pads and i feel the difference could be made with the pads alone

wheels pictured are seven inch cookie cutters.

having said that, the "hide-away" exhaust had to go, it hit the calipers. went to a phat boy, they are very, very loud! comparable with a stinger!:dork:

late discs running on the king and link pin front......


once again i'm talking u2u style to someone about the way my front brakes were set up, so i thought i would just post it up here as well......

the caliper brackets here are set to hold the standard beetle caliper on the link pin/drum spindle....

i had to pull the front apart down to the trailing arms to install new king and link pins.

here is the "stub assembly" you can see the new link bushes have been pushed into place. these are the easy bit, with a simple press fit and no reaming required. the king pins were done a while back and require a lot more work in their set up:thumb

after measuring the offset of the trailing arms, the correct number of shims are added to both the top and bottom pins, this sets up the camber of the wheels properly

from there it's pretty simple....

bolt the bracket in place....

my discs are porsche pattern and have the uniform thickness on the back. the use a standard grease seal. and "adapter" bearings that have the O.D of the late disc, and the I.D of the drum spindles.

i use long audi wheel bolts, as standard v.w are a bit short for the porsche wheels. MMMMMMmmmmmm original deep 6 fuchs':cool:....

the package of V.W front and EA rears works well for me. certainly a lot different from the early 4 drum set up:lol:

ADRs (and engineers) require the fronts lock before the rears so you don't go into a crash backasswards

Yup! BUT you want them to lock J-U-S-T before the rears... not, like, one week...

The real test comes when there's some heat in the system and the skinny stocko 9mm front rotors overheat/fade before the thick Falcon 13mm rears and you end up facing the wrong way on the way back from Dorrigo :o

I have a proportioning valve in the front circuit (23mm thick vented discs) of my car that allows me to adjust

Where do you get them? I looked through heaps of bearing catalogues to find a bearing that would work but I ended up having to machine the discs.

ohh yeah, forgot that, i think it's just the outer bearing seat that gets machined tho (memory), i will compare the bearings on the other side

Hi guys. Short time reader and first time poster.

I'm interested in your EA conversion. I've bought a knackered Eureka and I intend for this to be one of the mods I do to it.

I've followed this process easily, and can do all the work myself (except I will have to get a set of seagull's brackets - I hope he has some).

I intend to keep the Falcon stud pattern because of the choice of wheels available, and I know I'll have to buy new blank hubs for the rear and have them drilled. I'm sure that won't be a problem.

One thing that eludes me is the origin of the front discs that you used, Hellbuggered. Were they just genuine porsche fronts? Also, the bracket you used. I guess that's Porsche too?

If I intend to use EA rear discs, I am aware that I will need to keep the bias in mind. Could I get EA discs for the front, or would that "lock up the fronts a week before the rears" as someone said?

Are variable brake bias valves able to be used if your car is a road car?

Any suggestions in this regard would be appreciated, and thanks for your patience if the answer to this has been covered somewhere that I haven't yet found.

front discs are just late beetle style.......you would have to search out some blanks for your ford pattern. maybe shermans will have them for you

brakets are a "conversion" plate that simply mates beetle calipers to link pin suspension.........try vintageveedub supplies for those
