I got round the belt guard by having stinking hot catalytic converter and radiator in front of them. Their hands will be vapourised by the heat long
before they can get caught in the belt.

Hold on that's not a good thing is it...:o

Does anyone have trouble with their Beetle engine blowing oil into the air cleaner/s?

I had My breather hose coming off where the fuel pump originally was...
but some oil was pumped straight up the hose into the oil filter.....
now I have a hose going straight up from the alloy oil filler, and the end of the hose
is still oily... I don't think any oil is actually coming out the end of the hose,
but certainly very oily fumes.... engine hasn't done many kms...
I noticed at the nationals, many engines had the breather pipe going to a small pod type air filter...
or into the top of air cleaners....
and a lot with twin carbs had the breather box with hoses going to the tappet covers....
is this necessary or needed for a standard 1600 engine?
Any comments appreciated...
Lee

recirculating your oil vapour into your air cleaner is better for the environment. It also stops the car smelling oily as the vapour isn't vented to
the atmosphere.
However, in the precise world of racing engines, oil vapour int eh mix can lead to pinging, inconsistent mixtures and increased cylinder temps.
The short answer is, if the engine is otherwise standard, leave the oil breather on the air cleaner. If it's not, then put a breather tank on.

Ok, a little OT but as requested, another few shots of the 356...
(not sure how you post actual pictures straight in to replies, so photobucket URLs will have to do)
