ok now ive gotten it started.
starts fairly easy now.
blew the cobwebs out.
ok the exhaust for #3/4 gets very hot and the exhuast is hot as it exits the cannon.
the exhuast for #1/2 gets slightly warm and the exhuast gas is barely above room temp.
have to keep the engine at about 1800 revs to keep it running and if u pump the pedal it backfires or if u take foot off pedal suddenly it
backfires
i pulled the 1 and 2 plugs and both were oily.
i have spark at these leads......why wont it run even? dissy cap perhaps?

Could also be blocked idle jet or circuit.
ie the have to rev above 1800 and the sudden back off.
Dont like the sound of the cool gas on 1 n 2
Sounds like they are not firing.

definantly worth doing a compression test. If youve got valve problems or just worn rings on one or more cylinder it wont run evenly or smooth without
major compensations in power and economy. Do a compression test, sounds like your not getting enough compression on 1 and 2 to get a good combustion.
Does the exahust sting your nose or smell rich (dont take too many whiffs or you will die from the carbon monoxide). Put ya hand infront of the 1 and
2 exhaust and pull it away after a few seconds and smell ya hand for petrol...

if it was me...
id just rip off the head on the 1 and 2 side, check for cracks between inlet and exhaust valves, this is VERY common on TP 1600 engines
replace rings while the access is there, better yet, do all 4 piston and rings cos if its black and oily ya arnt burning the fuel... or the oil
sliding up the sides of the barrel! if ya do all 4 cylinders then ya know ya got a reliable engine
but seriously, theres no other way around fixing your car if rings of valve wear is the problem
just rebuilt my sisters 71' 1600 tp n it wasnt hard at all, n i dont have a job in mechanics or nething, turned over 1st crank too

will try to do compression test 2moro. and double check the valves and try differnet plugs etc.

oh and it stopped backfiring so it was prolly someting in idle circut which got blown out.

nope still wont idle.......but it appears to be running on 2 cylinders so i dont really blame it......it does however feel like it wants to idle but
just cant keep it up with only the 2 cylinders.
ill pull the rocker covers off tomorrow and have a good look at the rocker action and see if i can pic something up.

ok.
appears i have a cracked head.
made itself obvious today with raw fuel leaking out.
1776 is dropped and 1600 hopefully with be back in and running tomorrow.

1600 is back in. as of about 2 hours ago.
damn it feels nice to drive my car again!!!!!
it would have been 2 weeks tomorrow.
already had someone tell me how cool it was and someone tell me it was "crazy" as in im insane having huge tires on the back lol and i only took it
for a 10 minute drive with a couple of stops.
