Well so far 15 out of 19 say I made a good decision...
Phase two will commence soon... (Obviously it'll be the guards, wheels, neons and suspension height!!)
Man, I need to buy Jeff's swaybar.

Stick the bumpers back on.

dude I love matt black, but you need some serious dumping as was said by others. You almost got a baja bug with that much height. Plus you need a skinny/fatty (front rear) tyre setup if you want the real hotrod look. Then you can rake it properly. At the mo there's way too much rubber on the front, and totally not enough at the back. Find a pair of 15x4" inch rims off a beelte and put 145s on em for the front. Some mega whitewalls would help too. ;)

like this...

She looks unhappy to me. Chuck the bumpers back on, lower her a bit (rake just looks silly to me) and she'll look as badass as those rear lights suggest she is.

I had towel rails on her at one stage:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j286/Volkswagenboy1/Club%20Meet/IMG_0025.jpg

But I'd rather her without bumpers (Or at the most T-Bars).
I'm using 6" Mags for the front and 8.5" for the business end...
Will also be shoving 245's, maybe 65/14 Radials on the arse, and just 185 65 on the front.
Tonight I'll be making a trip to my shed to pick up my spare guards, I've decided to pump them out 5" (to account for lowered struts) on the front and MAYBE 6" on the rear.

I'll post some pics of how they go once I've started cutting & joining.

To give you a rough idea, the tyres are 185 65/14's already, so pumping the guards out 5" and dumping her on the front should look grouse.

you need to ask yourself some questions.

A. What do you want the car to look like? ROD, German looker, resto custom, stocker. Coz everything you do needs to be controlled by that.

B. Does the car actually handle? Coz from what I can see it must understeer like a pig at the mo. Beetles have no weight in the front so big fat tyres on the front is a waste unless they are low profile and very very sticky. From what I can see your front tyres are neither. It's bordering on a Baja currently.

Sorry if I offend you, but I know you are a young fella and all young fellas suffer similar problems, I did the same. We just do things willy nilly in the hope the car will look cooler. So take a tip. DON'T pump the front guards out. Just get some skinny tyres (on stock rims) that will fit and are a good compound and lower the car. Add some sway bars and you'll be surprised at just how much better it grips and how much better it looks. macpherson strut beetles can be tuned to handle better than any other beetle. Take advantage of it and when you get that right, I think you'll find the car looks heaps better too. ;)

I've given you a few cars to look at to see what I mean.
The first one belongs to bizarre. It looks great. Check the stance and the wheel and tyre setup. This thing drives really well ask Bizarre. (the man wandering in front of it is also off the forum).

The green car belongs to 71ejvan and the cabrio used to be squizy's. (I'd tell you who owns it know but he's be very uncool about it, lol). Now I know the green car is german look, but the stance it great, and the cabrio was one of the best looking cars I ever saw on the road in terms of ride height while moving. It looked awesome. It's been changed back to standard now and I have the rear sway bar off that car on my car now. But you get the point.

A: Why do I need it to LOOK like something, the whole point of owning a car is personalisation, and creating your own look.

B: It handles quite good, suprisingly it oversteers a little.

And yes I'm a young fella, but the thing is this is what I want to do... NOT just to make it look cool... plus I have the wheels in my shed for it already which require the wider guards.

Out of the cars I own and drive, Veronika is one of the best (But not THE best) drives I have when it comes to steering.
Even AFTER I converted her to RHD when I was 16.

Thanks for the tips, but yeah no specific look thanks, I don't want to blend in with all the GL's or Rods. I'll take it as it comes, just like my other projects at the moment.

(I know I know... Young fella... But I get the 'Do your own thing' part from my father, a (As I call) unique car owner/builder)

Don't get me wrong Pete, your advice is helpful (Lowering the front, using swaybars etc) but I'm on my way to doing those mods too...
Thanks for the tips either way, sorry if I offended you with my replies but hey that's life.
My current plans are to:
* Install lowered struts (Or adjustable struts).
* Install a sway-a-way swaybar (From bugbrained).
* Pump the guards out to make way for my mags wheels.
* Rebuild the engine (Use twin carbs etc too)
And maybe later on make some T-bars up, convert to type three braking and get a heavier torsion bar for the rear.

mag wheels? why didn't you say so? Cool, do that, I thought you were pumping the guards to cover what you already have. Got any pics of the new wheels?

Listen, I'm not trying to say don't do something different. Do what ever you want, but figure out the big picture first. That's all I was trying to say.:)
