This is the section under the back seat on the opposite side of where the battery sits (its behind the front passenger). Water has in the past pooled in this spot and so I was more than a little nervous scraping off the tar in this section.

This is a shot before I had removed the tar/deadener/whatever except for a small section in the middle.

This shot is after the tar has been removed. This section is literally pristine. I had to remove the heater channel connection section for better access.

before painting with rust preventative paint, I am using a rust converter so that the job I do will last. The converter goes on white and apparently then drys darker.

this is after the rust converter has been applied. I will leave it overnight before applying the rust preventative paint.

How much fun is it working on a car in confined unsheltered space. Days and nights like these I wish I had a huge garage with concrete floors and a big long bench with shelves. I suppose it's character building and adds to the fun. Good luck with the job and don't get any wet and dry in the cats bowl.

tell me about it cal68, I dream of a shed, with a work bench, space to open the doors of the car on both sides! and maybe a beer fridge (and a flat screen:P)

But I have what I have and I will make do.

Not sure of the rust converter brand will check this evening and let you know. Nothing special though, straight from Bunnings.

I will paint that section with rust prohibitive paint later today.

Also did some more mundane work stripping the pan, using a flat head screwdriver believe it or not (boring).

The pan gets better and better as I go towrads the front of the car. There is actually no rust at all around this section, but given I started I may as well finish.
