All engines have their pros and cons but after goin for a quick spin in the rotary nothing can compare to its high pitched screem as it easily hurtles
past 80 mph in second gear with 3rd and 4th left. in my oppinion nothing can beat the screem of a rotary with a lil work done on it, not to mention
the smoothness.
just thought i would add my 2 cents seen as people were talking about subi's, v6's and the old aircooled.
Ps i know the first response will be ppl saying lack of toque which is correct when comparing early model roataries to piston power ( specially twin
dizzy models) but take a look at specs on the net first and you will find that the figures of a stock standard 13 b will have twice as much torque
then a an aircooled 1600 tp.
on the other hand i hear good stuff about subi power but down side they are starting to become common as bum holes ( every one has one). lol jks
Take care all,, as long as its a vw its got character

I'll have to take you for a spin to show you smoothness and a piston engine that screams.
I was driving my friends 11sec R32 GTR Skyline today (which has an R34 engine in it). It is the fastest, craziest, most insane car I have ever been
in. And I have been in a Ferrari 360, a Dodge Viper GTS and an 11sec 650HP Dogde Challenger. The sound, the ridiculous acceleration, the fact as I
exited a round about I was spinning all four wheels under acceleration.
So really everything is relative.

yeah i agree modern piston engines can be smooth and be screemers but not screemers as in the same class as a rotary . i have also been in some very
hot piston powered cars and have owned both rotaries and pistons such as very hot r32 gtr( sold it a week ago to a fella in nsw ) and have been in
other fast road cars 34 gtr skylines, supra rz supercharged ford gt ect ect and so forth but mostly performance jap cars. but in my oppinion nothing
has the feel or the sound of a hot rotary under full sting at high revs well past that of most piston engines. (not to mention the amount of hp
obtainable from such a small
and compact engine) .After all there must be good reasons for mazda to go to the trouble of putting rotaries in their top sports cars.
but differant things for differant ppl i guess its all a matter of oppinion and what floats ya boat the almighty to someone might be anothers junk and vice versa lol
take care all

Subject: I love my subaru motor.
I finished my Suby conversion 51 weeks ago.
For many reasons it has taken me this long to get back on to this forum - one reason is there was some joker posting back then who I took offence to.
Another reason is I just needed a break after 4 years of HEAVY internet work in order to carry out the conversion myself. I live in Ceduna so the only
real help I got was electronic in form. Very good it was too.
Anyway, my first post in 51 weeks was to also say:
"I love my Subaru motor too"
I have given my bus absolute hell at times traversing local sand dunes and I have not been let down once. In fact, the bus now even surprises me at
what it will do, especially as I am now gaining a fair bit of confidence in 4wding.
Pete et al are right. So smooth. So powerful. So much torque. So much much!
I drive a brand new Kluger for work and am allowed complete private use but still take the Syncro out as much as possible because of the smile it
leaves on my face
Cheers,
Andy

Hi guys...
Thinkin' about it... an insurance written-off car at an auction could be bought cheaper than a fast dub motor...
What kinda model cars (affordable common ones liike subies with lotza guts) should a noob like me look at?
I am currently looking into finance on a working, runabout car... I got a few sources of dough to look at with parents backing me up and helpin... If
i get a runabout car, then i won't need to rush the baja to get it on the road asap as my ride, i could take my time and make it a nasty machine like

I love my subaru
Hi Pete,
I had to chime in. The subaru conversion is the best thing
that I've ever done to my buggy!!! I drive it more now than I ever did before (and I use to drive it alot). Now I
don't spend half my time fixing oil leaks, adjusting valves, cleaning out carbs, and changing oil thats alway dirty.
I learned so much from the little vw motors and I will always love those engines but I have converted to the dark side forever! I just cant see
spending the time and money to squeeze every last ounce of power out of an
overworked engine, not when you can have a engine thats in stock form and is capable of so much more and is reliable to boot

Pete, spoke to the chief today ... given that I don't have a motor in the 75 Microbus I just got, and decent T4s seem to be thin pickins - who wants
to spend a grand or so fitting an anchor ... then defo gonna go with the EJ22 in it. As usual, he's got some 'ideas', as he's had a few Sube buses
through in the last 12 months, which he thought could have been done better for a number of reasons...so guess the search is on ... gather the bits
and off we go.
Can't wait ... not sure if to drop it or raise it at this point. One things for sure, sitting in the middle is too ordinary for me.
I've done over 200,000 ks in Subarus ... I really like the idea of going up hills and not having to do more than change the oil every year....rebuild
a 2.0 T4?, why?

Gotta say, I nuked my factory fit Type 4 2 litre. Snapped a valve guide in No 1 - it did a rumble into No2. No 3 sunk a valve seat. Rough pricing for
me to rebuild it properly was £1K (UKP). I had a spare set of 2 litre Type 4 heads too.
My conversion cost roughly £1.5k (UKP) for an EJ20 using a RJES bellhousing. A lot of blood, sweat and tears (before bedtime). The RJES bellhousing (
http://www.rjes.com ) isn't just a bolt on jobbie and needs chassis mods. Went for this
though as it retains a bog standard Scooby flywheel, pressure plate, starter motor and realase bearing. It uses a standard 228mm Type 4 2 litre
friction plate & standard 2 l release arm. There's a lot to be said about COTS stuff (Commercial Off The Shelf) as opposed to fettled/machined to
fit.
Also used a Custom Off Road throttle body invertor for ease.
Worth every penny Cruises at 80mph and has returned 29mpg (that's UK
gallons) on a 650 mile round trip, town work and motorway cruising.
