Its Killing Me

So Here is where I am at.

Weapon or shall we call hin Alfred Hitchcock has us all excited with a major Barn find, What will it be in our little Australia that has been gathering dust all this time unknown and unnoticed.

Ian Mezz has found a VW radio wrapped in a solid blue Bus, with 5 more to come.

VWtyp2, blew me away with a dreamy fat cracking Barn Door Micro Barn find , to then follow it up with a woody barn full of split beetles, my life would close complete if I found something like that.

Weapon, put us to rest and show us what you have found.

I just love the adventure of treasure hunting!

the numbers that you gave don't seen to make sense... too many digits on the engine no.

is it an oval or a split?

if it's an oval i'll take a punt on a feb 55 body with a dec 55 motor (assuming you doubled the 3 when typing or something).

the samba has good ref lists for numbers.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php

good luck with your negotiations.

please more pics!!!

henry.

edit: BTW. amazing find, you must be rather pleased. (i hope you know someone with a BIG shed)

no offence taken mate.. That info table on that site I cited is a little abiguous, though I would presume the chassis numbers they have listed for each year is the last chassis number for that yer, so according to:

http://www.pre67vw.co.uk/production/default.aspx?id=1
it's a 53

and that's corroborated by a manual I have too. According to that manual, that's the year you just missed out on geting 16" rims and crotch-coolers on that model too.. :(

In regards to the engine muber, it may be correct - the manual says that in 1953, the engine numbers go uotp 1-695 282. The "1-" part could be a translation to your "10" suffix...? So the original engine, it may be! It may also be the 30hp version (once again, the 'remarks and model changes' are a bit ambiguous - are these changes implemented during of after this year as quoted in the manual?

Hope this all helps..
PS: if you can have a look at the front drums, the shoe return springs should be parellel. I think it was in 1954 that they introduced having 3 return springs before returning to 2 in either 1961 or1964...

the weirdness of early chassis number confused me at first

10573563 is on the plate, & really 1-0573563 1 is type 1 then the 0 is "silent"

so it is really the 573563 rd beetle chassis & a lot of internet & book resources list it only as that

Yeh, that's what I'm presuming too - the silent "0"... well, on the compliance plate, the "1-" is stamped into the plate (from behind) where as the rest of the number is relief stamped (from the front)...
