Well, with less time and a lot less money than I anticipated having at this stage of the year....the oval project is still moving, but just slowly (as in 36hp slowly).

Gearbox is currently with Dave awaiting a new super diff after the first was a dud. Once complete I'll rip the 36'er and split case box out and modify the front mount for the later box...also will make rear solid mount and a mid mount.

I am also awaiting the cam, lifter, rockers, pushrods etc from Raby in the US - once they arrive I can start assembling the long block so hopefully after probably two weeks of all night'ers.....it may be ready to drive onto the trailer and up to warwick! Will be tight, but I am committed :)

Alan

How is everyone else going?

Well so far we are being held up by parts coming from the states on a bloody canoe...

All the brakes are ready to go with the disc brake set up for the rear all working. front end copped some new tie rods and new ball joints and the rear has got the treatment of some JCL spring plate retainers and some new torsion bar housing bushes. All the original rubber bushes that hold the torsion bar housing onto the floor pan on a type 3 have been replaced with bushes machined up out of some nice billet alloy. Gearbox cradle and brace from hell is 95% finished and is just waiting on some shock mount strengthening to be finished. Once engine parts arrive it's assembly time and then it's ECU wiring and the finishing touches on some fuel lines and some oil lines for the turbo and dry sump tank etc etc then off to the dyno...

Warwick is only 10 odd weeks away so things are getting a little bit "on edge" to see my brothers Type 3 there ready to roll(it has to be as he's already paid his entry money !!!)

Rod and I pick up his car today ,well very sweet work done by Craig from RaceCar Engineering .
All chromemoly bar work(bar continue's down to rear forks ) ,kirky alloy racing seat fitted lower to floor then stock seat .
The first thing you notice now is how stiff the car feels ,body twist ,even the sound when you shut the doors is some how different (very tight)
This was all done for safety reasons (seat bounce, belts become loose ,roll over safety)
I have to get motor back in this week ready for week-end Dyno Mania event.

6 weeks and 4 odd days til Warwick 07.

Brothers car is awaiting Engine from engine building guru, then fitment to the car with exhaust, turbo set up, intercooler, dry sump tank and oil lines.

Fuel rails should done this week ready to be fitted so rest of the fuel lines can be completed.

Intake manifolds by then should be back from metal polishers ready for assembly with fan shroud and Porsche alternator and fan.

Then it's off to the tuners for ECU and sensors install and tune. Fingers crossed for no drama's.

Then it's wheel alignment time and try to get some Km's on it before Warwick.

all in just over 6 weeks....EASY..... not.

The joys of the last minute rush keep the adrenalin pumping!!

Fabian is now ready in the Aussie Inch pincher, he had a run at Wellington on Sunday, had a couple of linkage problems but managed a 7.88 on his last run, with 20 psi in the rear tyres and lots of wheel spin, he is now driving it a bit harder than last year too!

Good stuff - Dave (Menangler) - how are you progressing in your preparations?

After some issues with cam bolts interfering on the type IV case, and therefore clearancing them....I knackered the rear main crank bearing. As I was pulling the crank and cam in and out several times trying to trouble shoot the problem, the very last time I only checked my alignment scribes on one side (probably getting excited about fixing the cam problem!) on the rear main.....other case half went on, torqued to 15ft/lbs as a preliminary check and of course the crank wouldn't turn.

Stripped it all down again, cleaned all the sealant off etc etc.....and now awaiting new bearings (fingers crossed the bearings Damo have are right - I needed standard outer and the equivalent of one grind on crank inner). So hopefully once they arrive I can get back onto the engine assembly....then pull the 36hp out, new gearbox in, engine (and new fuel lines etc) in....etc. It is going to be a very busy 6 weeks!

Alan,
I don't know if this is going to help you in regard to lining up the bearing, but what I do prior to any engine assembly is insert each full circle main bearing into one half of the case and gently scribe the case mating face line onto the bearing so that I can see not only if it is lined up but also if the bearing is completely sitting in the case and dowell pin before the case haves are assembled
A bit late - but I hope it helps
Henry
