Thanks for the info John.
Good to know that you finally had a chance to take Brutus down the quarter.
Good effort to all those guys that raced or spectated on the day to make it a success.

Stylin ran 12.80 @ 107.
I ran a 11.30 @126 on low boost with a fuel pressure regulator problem.
The rack was quite cold and slippery so I was just doing some launches.
Thinking about it, it was a good decision. It was good to see Mike walk away in good spirit's. I think it was a good eye opener for a some people
showing them how on edge these things really are!
It was good turn out with most real VW enthusiasts making it. But I would have thought by the talk that has been going around that there is a lot more
hotties around Vic. Or maybe their cars just seem faster dragging on wet roads without the reality of a time card.
Hopefully more locals will show up next time and support the VW Club of Victoria.
Thanks guys!!

Just wanted to get some information straightened out that is either having a dig at the car and crew or simply worded unfortunatly (I hope its the
later), I can asure you the car is as safe as drag cars can be. It is an Andra teched car meeting and in some areas exeeding andras world class
standards as correctly quoted by dak-a-tak. The safety equipment on board did its job ensuring driver was not hurt(just a little shaken).
Traction was the problem (as mentioned by craig vwma editor.) not a loss of the rear wheel. The wheel tore free from the hub upon impact with the wall
and not before and the wheel centre still remains firmly bolted to the axle hub. Unfortunitly the car struggled for traction all day the first run was
also very skatie which is why the bottle was turned off for the second run.
It was an unfortunate end to Cranky mark one but i can asure you mark two is already in discussion.
Thanks to those who put on the day i hope you continue to enjoy such events and that the word gets around on what fun those unable to attend missed
out on. Keep on racing but remember that drag racing is dangerous so take care.:thumb

Make sure you Sydney guys keep in touch with Mike,
and keep him in high spirits.
After my accident I found a few aches and pains a few days later,
and really got down in the dumps.
Lucky I had my buddys around me to keep me interested in the scene,
and eventually back behind the wheel.
All us guys up here in QLD were glad to hear you were OK Mike,
and wish you well.

Yep I will reaffirm the sentiments already expressed by the other guys above - glad to hear Mike is okay, and that plans are already being hatched for
Cranky Mark 2. It would be easy to walk away which I think no-one could criticise, but to walk away with high spirits and motivation to stay in the
'seat' is great to hear.
All the best to Mike and crew

Hi Mike,
It was the latter. What I was refering to in the photos was that after you hit the wall, from where we were watching, it looked like the car had lost
momentum and was safe. What we didnt see at that stage was the impact had removed a wheel, and a few seconds later, overturned.
We spoke after you returned, and I was amazed at seeing how intact the area protected by the cage and the roll bars were. As you pointed out, the
tabs holding the shell to the chassis, the cross bars, the whole jungle gym that protected you, did far better than could be expected.
Even the engine appreared to have been saved any damage.
The car was making amazing power, and the run looked to be going strong and straight. In the high-def photos it is possible to make out the rubber on
the track from your launch.
The most impressive display to the build of the car was that you walked back down the track to the pits when the car was removed. Not a scratch or
bruise to be seen.
I look forward to seeing Cranky Mark II.

Well ! I'll be the first to say ,bring on the video's of crash and racing on the day .
I'm sure Mike won't mind ,as crashes are all part of our sport and it all is part of history of vw drag racing in this country.
Also Mike him self is a big boy and he is fine !
(Pictures tell a thousands words and it shows how hard drag racing is, for the nockers of our sport )

What a great day of drag action it was!!
You gotta love german engineering hey. Drive it there, flogg the guts out of it on a track all day and drive it 100k's home agaon no worries.
My best time was 15.55 @ 87.7mph. Bad news was that this was in the bracket race bit and I broke out by .4 of a second and lost to a really nice two
tone green splittie T2. I think I chased him too hard with the split start.
It was an excellent day. Thanks to all that came out to make it a success. This will be a regular part of the VW Club Vic calendar now. Our hearts go
out to Mike and crew. Hope you guys all made it back home ok.
Here some incar T34 action vid I took during the day. Didnt get any out of car stuff as I was too busy circulating the track.

about the car. Was a good weekend bar the crash, great talking with you guys from melbourne eyery one was so supportive.
Mike is doing fine althought he has sustained a few briuses form a few sessions on the bendigo go-kart trying to keep up with the kids.

I have good video footage of the crash from behind and it shows Mike blast the tyres in second gear, as soon as he hit third the car went left into
the wall. Out of respect I will not post the footage unless Mike ok's it. He has asked for a copy so he can analyse it from another angle, so he
might even post it himself.
sorry guys.

Where are all the times from the other cars?! There were many more than have popped up here, standard & road/club hotties & warmies. Maybe the
entrants don't know about AVD?
Having been somewhat disappointed with Brutus's time, I was interested to come across a web 'Calculator' to give 0 - 60 mph times using the 1/8
mile (660 foot) speed and time, which are given on the slip from Heatrhcote. Putting in B's best data (9.773s & 71.35mph) I was surprised to see the
0 - 60 time at 6.91 s. That sounds half-way decent!
The Calculator is at: http://wallaceracing.com/0-60_equation.php
(This was given in a post from last year, came across it by accident.) Are such calculations reasonably reliable?
Also Dave B. gave me some pointers (in a separate thread) on using the 60 ft times as a predictor of performance/potential. Still lots to learn! I
hope the Club runs this event again sometime!
In the last several posts, put up the last day or so, it seems that several more pic's have been put up. I can't see them, from this point on:
"The junka on Drag day 09-06-07
11.30 @ 126 mph
on low boost"
(but can see all the earlier ones). Can everyone else see the latest pics?

Well as Brutus said I did around 19.4 to 19.3 consistently with my r/t around 0.60 which I was pretty happy with, I had some clutch slipping issues
but I doubt I would have gone much faster anyway.
I would recommend it to any one, it doesn’t matter how fast or slow your car is it’s all just a bit of fun.
I had a great time and even won the bracket racing competition and I have never been to the drags before
Now I just have to get off my arse and get this new engine done, can’t wait to feel the power difference |
