Yes, the back is taking longer than I thought to get better and all I want to do is work on the car. I have another week off at the end of September
for my wedding anniversary, I'm sure the wife wont mind if I work on the car instead of her I can go from one vw bonnet to the next

Its been a while since I posted any photos as after the back getting better I have had the lazy bastard syndrome. I need to really pull my finger out
and get stuck into finishing the body and getting it sprayed. Anyway, here are two photos as of yesterday.
Hope you like the wheels half as much as I do, I spent about 2 months searching and trying to find wheels to suit my offset requirements (still
didn't) for the 4 wheel disc brakes I have on her. Don't worry about the height/angle in the second photo, I hadn't adjusted the back suspension
yet.

In the photo is actually my two rears on the left side only and they are 18x8". The front two are getting modified down to 7" this week. As I
said, it was bloody hard to find something to bolt straight re offsets on unless I went a 3 piece wheel like Simmonds. But that would have made it 2.5
times dearer to buy than buying new wheels and having them modified.
REXY - The whole body is etched primed and it has been like this for near 12 months after blasting. But I appreciate what you are saying and gather
you mean where I have been doing some work and rubbed through. Thanks for that.
Cheers, Kevin

Hey Kevin,
Looks great, wheel are nice and should be great once colour goes on. I think I would of left the side mould on the car to compliment the new wheels.
Great size wheels for the car too.
Did you go to a ford stud pattern? Did you 2-pack your floor and parts?

Turbo54 - the stud pattern is Chev/Holden and the floor pan is POR15.
Thanks everyone for all your positive feedback.

Looks great, Any reason you wnet this stud pattern and not ford. I went ford because there is more choice for wheels and offset.
Too late now but it looks great. Do you know what the back space is on them? I have found a set of 17x8's but they are cast and cant be narrowed so I
am stuffed for the front as I really wanted 7 or 6" fronts.
I can get them to fit on the back as I have had it narrowed and I have 2" wider guards but the front is stuffed. Where are you getting yours done?

Just typed a big reply and lost it. Pissed off now, so this is the short version.
Turbo54 - Place I bought rotor kits from only did Porsche (130x5), chev and 4 stud. I did porsche and chev to double options in case I went Fusch
wheels. No point telling you my offset sorry, depends on your hub setup. You will need to put a wheel on and work it out. I used a clubsport
commodore wheel. Neale wheels is doing the mods to the wheels - Greenacre area. He is cutting 1" out of the wheel well area to change 8" to 7".
1958kafer - George as Classic Vee Dub. Seem to fit ok, dont have anything to compare to.

Check out my latest purchases over the last week or so. And these are just spares, as I still have another set I bought over 12 months ago tucked
away waiting to be fitted. Or I should say when the car is finished

Well I have finally had a step forward after what seems like the longest time. Am currently on 4 weeks long service with the intention of getting
some work done to the car, although I am in the last week of it.
Have worked on the car 15 days out of the last 17 days, not that they were full days. Probably only 5-6 hours a days, sometimes less, pending family
requirements. Have to down tools and pick my daughter up every day from school and then look after her until the wife get home about 6pm, so the day
finishes for me about 2pm.
This is my first time at doing a resto/make over and I cant believe how much preparation work is required in getting panels smooth. And I dont even
know if I'm doing a good enough job. If I had to pay $50 (cheap rate) an hour labour for what I have done over the last year or so, it would be over
$15000 just in labour cost.
Anyway, enough talking (writing) here are a couple of photos. Its only etch primer today and will be doing high fill tomorrow if all goes to plan
(usually is doesn't).

Kev, I know your pain and dilemma....no matter how much your good intentions are to move ahead with the car, things just always seem to pop up from
out of no where!!
But it's looking the goods, and the wheels look really trick on it

Great work Kev
Will You be going to the VW Nationals in May??
I doubt if You will be driving Your beetle...
I tried for a number of years to try to be there...
but Only made it last year in My Beetle..
I stilll look around to see whats for sale..
I believe that the parts have all gone in price...
I am going to buy an SVDA distributor from the US.
they are timed to suit a PICT2 or 3 or 4...
Fairly expensive... but the say Your engine runs cooler and with better fuel economy too
cheers

Well, another 2 days work and a little more to show for it. Finally got some high fill primer on there (and no its not going to be white). As I said
the other day, shit this is a lot of work. Just did 3 weeks preparation work and finally got to lay some paint (sorta) down for all the hard work
done. Still not sure if I have done a good enough job on the prep work, but got sick of fixing little dents. Every time you think you got it right,
another dent or blemish would jump out at you
Mick058 - I would also love to see this on the road but dont hold your breath and I hope the finished product doesn't let me or you down.
68autobug (Lee) - yes, I will definitely be at the show. But I think you may be right in that I will not be driving the bug there, much to my
disappointment.
Now the new photo update.

Hi mrboombastic,
No, I had never sprayed before this car. But you must remember, this is only the primer and high fill primer. I will not be spraying a final coat,
as I will leave that up to an experienced sprayer. Haven't done anything to the car since my last entry.
But I have just bought an engine, although not planed. Was going to use the 1500/1600 single port that came with the car until this came up for sale
the other day. Obviously I will be removing the buggy type exhausts to fit it into my Beetle and fitting new tinware. This is a video of the quick
start up today to test engine.
