it has a late model engine lid???
the rare 1967 model beetle in USA had late headlamps
and towel rail bumpers and horn grills..
the European 67 beetle had sloping early headlamps... etc
the standard beetle was a cheap model..
painted bumpers and hubcaps - no interior light or glove box lid .. early ones had a painted stripe instead of chrome side strips... painted 1/4
windows..
the Custon 1300 beetle had stainless steel blade bumpers without overriders..
still no glovebox lid and hoodling only in the centre part of the roof...

above.

that would have been a very rare [in Aust] German made 1200 that was sold in Europe..
because of fuel costs the 1200 was available for many years in europe

|
they were made cheap to sell cheaper than the deluxe model... standard was 1200cc
Custom was 1300cc engine bare bones model..
the metal parts for the trim over the doors wasn't on the body or the pillar trim - they were made especially that way...
so Robert, that looks like its an odd beetle and worth keeping... have a look under the bonnet to see where it was made..

This still has a 1968 chassis number so we still have a problem comparing it to a 67! From what i've been told, the front end and bumpers have been
changed to early model parts.

apart from the bumpers and bonnet and guards and dash
it looks like 1968 model body..
Late model doors - large glass -
flat hubcaps and 4 stud wheels..
I've never actually seen anyone go to the trouble of fitting the towel rail Extra round support pieces..
usually they just add late bumpers without the black round support pieces...
there should be a Made in Western Germany on the aluminium plate behind the front spare wheel...
or made in Australia - in which case someone has made it up from pieces of different models...
a set of New sloping headlamps and it would look great..
I didn't see any pics of inside the car

1968 RHD GERMAN made beetle...
Well Robert
this is one beetle made in Germany in 1968 that had a 1300 engine series F
but the engine in it seems to be from a 1966 beetle..
1300 F series...
Body has large glass - larger than the Aussie 67 beetle...
Late model doors... late gear lever and knob -early dash with 3 plastic demister vents ?? German Glass -
wide early chrome strips.. early bonnet, lock & handle.
early speedo -
will probably have 4 stud wheels with drum brakes all round.. and maybe balljoint front end??
or it could still have link pin front end..
this would have been a 1300 beetle from maybe the UK
seeing its RHD....
But its one rare beetle....
a bit of a clean up and polish, the wheels should be black & white.. and replace the heater hoses..
Lee
PS: and a new pair of headlight chromed rings..
or new headlamps..

1968 RHD 1300 beetle
the compliance plate was originally on the drivers side of the black middle inspection plate behind the spare wheel
You can see the two holes for the rivets that held it on
it would have good to get the ident plate
but the chassis number is good enough...
cheers

Nothing rare about it.
Its a 1968 pan and body, with a 1962 front end welded on.
I love panel beaters who use silicon and bog instead of welding to patch up the petrol filler.
Anyway this car is for sale, with more pics here http://kuch.com.au/robert/beetle for $2500 so let me know if your interested.

After seeing the pics it's pretty evident that this car has had lots of work done over the years, Upholstery for starters + two tone steering wheel
to match paint job (bet that was expensive), front blinker holes filled, head lights fitted with indicators, chrome?? looking blinker switch, window
rubbers etc.
It wouldn't surprise me if it's had an early Aussie front (bonnet release cable on drivers side) grafted on to a '68 body. Might have even been
done as a cheap way to repair accident damage, back in the day there would not have been much second hand stuff post '68, until they had been around
for a few years.
Regards,
Matt.

Check post above mate!
Was an accident damage, and the repairer welded a 1962 front end onto a 1968 body.
Its not a bad car, needs some work.
