nah Chris, ain't suppose to happen up in QLD.
When i got my licence about 20 months ago, the rules say u aren't.
If its double lined, no excuse. even if pulling into a drive way (usually they ahve breaks in the lines for em)
If its safe and no ones around and it won't hurt anybody, then it wouldn't be a worry. Sometimes the way lines are is excessive.

NSW roundabout laws have changed a few times.
Originally it was dependent on the size of the roundabout. A small roundabout you indicated as if it wasnt there and a large one indicate right to get
on, then left to get off. Then it went to always indicate right to get on, then left to get off. Now it is different again, you approach it and
indicate as if it wasnt there, but indicate left to get off..... but only if its practical. I dont know what that means.
Laws are changing in 2 weeks. But you dont see the government advertising any of this. In 2 weeks time you can be fined for not locking your car or
leaving your windows down more than 2 cm if you are going more than 3 metres away from it. Going to be a lot of guilty people out there,
|
Vic one on roundabouts from a few years ago is a winner, they decided that give way to the right was too difficult, so now it is first-in-best-dressed
at a roundabout! thankfully they didnt publicise it.

been doing the same thing mate. its strange isnt it. even on the f3 it happens.
actually the number of the suvs/ expensive cars driving around with my hand print on the side of them is phenomenal mainly cause i drive with the
drivers window down and if anyone starts to merge over on me, get a light tap
me pet hate is cyclists( and before anybody jumps up and down im a bike rider as well) who think the rules dont apply to them. they run red light then
dont slow down for round abouts and shoot up the inside of turning cars

I think VWMA editor has opened a right can of worms with this!!! I've been in Oz for over 20 years now and it still surprises me that every state has
its own laws, really makes for interesting interstate driving BTW loved your post Donn, I could easily see that happening to me.

I drive 10km under the limit everywhere I go, in the most left lane always. I do try to limit my driving to about 10, maybe 20km per week.

|
Orignally the Australian Road Rules, ARR, (they were supposed to align Vic, NSW & Qld traffic laws) said you could make a U turn but not make a
right hand turn over unbroken lines to enter a driveway.
Realising the mistake, and many more the ARR have been amended to the point where the book resembles the bible in size.
Now you can make a right turn into a driveway but you CANNOT make a U turn over the unbroken seperation lines.
Also you cannot, make a U turn at traffic lights unless it is sign posted saying U turn Permitted. Originally it was you could unless it said you
couldn't.
At a roundabout you must giveway to any vehicle already on the roundabout. Some people interpret that to mean give way to the right etc. Creates for
interesting debates.
Most of the new changes coming into force on July 1 have more to do with increasing fines and adding demerit points to offences that a present do not
attract them.
Leaving your car with the keys in the ignition attracts a nasty fine as well. So does not locking your car. This was in response to cars being knocked
off at Service Stations.
Very confusing.

The only thing I'll argue with here is the opening phrase. Drivers today can't drive.
Let me tell ya, with the possible exception of roundabouts, these sort of utter dimwits have always been around!
Nearly 30 years ago, stopped at a zebra crossing, a Reno 16 was going hard enough to write off the Gemini behind me, pushed it onto the footpath &
still have enough momentum to write off my HQ.
Straight road, slightly uphill, broad daylight. Didn't see us.
20 years ago, flagging Industrial Drive at Newcastle.
This is when rarely used crossings had a flagman to stop traffic so the train could cross the road.
A woman drove round the stopped traffic, around me, & into the side of a 60 tonne bright red locomotive that was in the middle of the road.
Around the same time, a car stopped at the level crossing at Neath, waited til we were about 10 feet off the crossing & decided to go. Because of
the state of the track the speed is only 20kph, but it was enough to write off a 120y, without killing the driver.
Drivers today ya reckon?
As long as there has been cars, there have been those who have found the license in a cereal box.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

Almost got into a little strife the other night.
Went visiting in my little 63, dad was driving and we live on a long gravel road. So we drove out onto the main road, no lines and no speed limit
(Max 100km/h) and looked left, and right saw nobody and then gunned the bug away. 200m down the road i looked behind and saw a HUGE raised up 4wd
speeding up and catching the bug, (We were sitting on 58mph) then he put ALL his driving lights on, (Four on the bumper, 4 on the roof plus the two
headlights on and then got right up behind the bug and tailgated us, right behind us probably not even a metre behind us and they did that for the
last 1km then as soon as we hit the town (If you can call it a town )
he slowed down so quickly and took a back street up to where the old tip was. Ill tell you what, it was so scary and i was the passenger and if
something would of happened to the car, (Still not running right damn 34pict-3 carbie) and it slowed down then he would of driven right over the top
of us. No bull..... Just some idiot trying to impress his
mates. Couldnt get his number plate otherwise he would have a couple of visitors.

And i was reading the paper, a hippie in a 120y was driving in a logging coop, and a forestry worker in his 4wd (Tasmanians would know the full story
from the paper, cant quite remember) anyway the bloke thought the hippie damaged equipment which he didn't and he rammed the car several times will
driving through the logging coop anyway he rammed the car one last time sending the car rolling over and wrapping around the tree. He wasnt killed but
was seriously injured

I love the look on the face of the turkeys who come down to the ferry at Berowra Waters, see cars lined up, so they go straight around them - then
discover the reason why everyone is stopped. They've only driven past half a dozen signs, overtaken on a blind corner, etc. Most of them have a
real hard time reversing too.

Looks like this is the spot for confessing my stupidity, never having been in the area before took a larger than normal (bigger than a car trailer)
trailer down through the bends to the ferry at Berowra Waters once, didn't see the bloody big sign at the top warning that road not suitable for
caravans, bit hairy getting down there you bet, at the ferry got talking to a few bikers and asked what the road was like getting out the other side,
they told me "not as good as the road you just came down" had me thinking I just might abandon the trailer right there till I realised that "not as
good" to them meant not so windy and therefore not as much fun on the bike.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

A while back I scored some old hang gliders to get the clothe to make some shade sails for the house. It's not a good idea as they thrash and flap
loudly in the wind. I made a some flag poles from the spars and also a couple for my sisters who live in the country.
I loaded them on the roof rack of the car, attached a red flag to the end and set off. It's the only time I've ever travelled in the country,
regardless of traffic condidtions and speeds, where I've not been tailgated by anyone.
I wonder why?
I've also noticed that as cars become more computerised, with all sorts of electronic gismos to help the drivers the worse they seem to become.
I can only assume that they dont drive their cars, they only operate them and expect the car's computer to do the rest.
