I admit I thoroughly like the idea of the carbon trading but I am probably biased because it will generate more business within in my industry, the more product/service I sell the more energy the client saves and the more credits there are to sell  ... bah who cares if it all gets onsold to the grotty multinational manufacturing plants in places like china to enable more useless shit product to be made along with the ' ever increasing brown fog' to fill the gaping holes in the lives of the owners of the McMansions in the burb's.... Quite frankly if everyone is so-oo uppety about using fertile farmland to make ecobullshit fuel, f*ck it, just clear some more rainforests instead..... monkeys spread aids anyway, so who needs em eh! :ninja: :smirk:

I am not sure how the carbon tax will benefit anyone but the Govt. When Australia contributes a minimal ammount to the overall scheme of things when China and India are the main pollouters (and also cheapest in terms of labour hire etc). When all our industry jobs are lost because it is cheaper to use foreign labour, who stands to benefit? I agree the enviroment should be looked after for future generations (not mine as I am not currently breeding....nor is my good lady wife either....:dork:), but aren't there other incentives we can put forth rather than taxing an industry to oblivion in the misguided belief that we are "helping" things? How many jobs and factory closures must we have before Kevin 07 realises that he is a twat?:spin:

Honestly when Kev and the other clowns came up with the idea of this carbon crap scam and that it would cost $5 Billion (which we'd have to pay for) surely for the money that's been considered, it could have been spent on creating better infrastructure for creating greener power etc.....

Cheers

Huh? Why do you want green power if its GW nonsense?

My point is that the Gov want us to believe that the only way to fix GW is to introduce this carbon scam...which as I said earlier we'd be paying for.
So if we are paying for it then the Gov are surely going to get a massive revenue stream for something that is really not relevant.
Surely you'd like your taxes and money to go to something more worthwhile.....

There's nothing wrong with green power, especially if you can harness what nature is already providing. There's no need to wreck the environment if you don't need to, for example have you seen what it takes to mine the oil sands in northern america? The oil giants have absolutely made a mess of the environment up there to the point there is no environment....

the so called "carbon crap scam" you refer to was started up long before Kev came into power. Do some research into geothermal power systems in aust and you will find that the initiative was not gov generated or even recently started. Stock market reports even discussed it nearly 12 months before Kev.

I do agree that it doesn't address the problem directly and that ideas show more promise: such as the microbacterial trialed by the Swiss and Germans and others for converting CO2 to perfect atmosphere or the outlay of household solar panels scheme currently running. Keep in mind for the pollies though the carbon trading scheme does however offer alot of extra short term employment and allows a new avenue to make money in the stock market.

Perhaps out of interest we could start a list of green energy ideas/solutions. What "greener energy" research or initiatives have people heard about?

nice one notch nut......... we are technoing ourselves out of so many use to be manual jobs
that we have to create another industry to employ all those people, so global warming carbon trading
alternate energies fuel efficiencies..... the list goes on.

Its gunna be great I was talking to a mate who has a farm and we are gunna clear fall a hill mill all the timber then replant with bluegum and claim 12 tonne per acre per year of carbon sequestering them wood chip it and get $112.00 FOB!!!!!

Again I think you are not a GW sceptic, but just upset that someone has to pay for it and its now trendier to be a sceptic. You cant support green power if you are concerned about the money. Its more expensive. I see you're concerned for the environment but dont want to admit that there is an environment above ground level. Its OK to be gay, its OK to eat meat, and its OK to care for the atmosphere. You dont need to be part of the in crowd, you dont need to wear Nike. I wear Brooks, I think you can be a hippy tree hugger too.

Not correct that the government is only pushing carbon credits. The government is pushing energy savings to reduce emissions. They have put star ratings on your electrical appliances. They have star ratings and emissions info on the windscreens of cars. They promote the use of public transport. You get free rail pass included in your ticket for the Sydney Easter Show for example. In NSW we have BASIX, which is adding up to $15,000 to house prices apparently.

I'm hoping that Rudds name being used here is just a synonym for government. Had John Howard stayed in power you would have carbon credits. The coalition government was well down the path planning for the same scheme, only difference is that they didnt have a start date... still dont, but supportive of the idea. Google is your friend http://www.mallesons.com/publications/2007/Aug/9074537w.htm  Not to mention the gradual tightening of vehicle emissions which have been happening here under all governments since at least 1984, the dirty bastards have been increasing the costs of our cars for 20 years over this stupid hoax. ( I know because when the engine in dads VK commodore went phht on a return trip from valla it cost twice as much as a blue motor.)

Perhaps I shouldn't call it fact, its just my understanding, is that the government doesn't make money out of carbon trading companies do. Companies who's emissions are under their carbon cap get credits to sell to companies that are over their cap. This provides an incentive for companies to reduce emissions. If not carbon trading, how else do you force companies to reduce emissions. Do you ask politely? If anything the carbon trading scheme will cost money to set up and administer. I cant see a cent in it for pollies.

The reason why we have to go first, is because someone has to go first and nobody else has balls. We can go first and not lose jobs by supporting Aussie products. Just today I bought an Australian made Pope garden hose with a $10 premium over the Taiwanese Cyclone one. I used to work for BHP Stainless (its been gone for over 10 years now). We got raw product for the same price of imported finished product, so it was under a lot of pressure for the 11 years I was there. And people I worked with were buying things they knew were made from imported stainless. dumb. Have balls buy Australian and save your own job. Dont wait for the government.

Yes you will pay more for a lot of things. It would be nice if some things got cheaper too, but we wont hold our breath. But why the hell should clean air cost less than dirty air?

as We only pollute about 2%

the US China and INDIA do the Majority of it

France gets 80% of their electricity from Carbon free

Nuclear Power stations...

We sell them the Uranium....

Sweden gets approx 80% of their power from Carbon free Wind generators

If We don't use the coal... in Our power stations..

another country will use the coal...
and Our Power stations are MUCH cleaner than they used to be....
The only "smoke" from a coal fired Power station is Steam
from the water cooling towers...

When I first moved to the Hunter valley many years ago
the SMOKE from liddel power station could be seen from Scone....
Now You can stand under it and not see any smoke....

they have had filter for many many years...
so No smoke.... Just steam...
from the cooling towers..

Solar power just isn't good enough...
try running an air conditioner with solar power
in Summer or winter....

. to the last comment

as for the solar not running air cons, they can if you have enough of them.... but seriously what solar offers is cheap power during the day therefore unloading the demand for coal power. Obviously reverting back to coal/nuclear power overnight. The gains are easy to see when you cost out your home power bill and the credit on supplied power to grid. See EGRON or DOMME website's for more info. Modern boiler systems for power generation can be easily adjusted for change in demand for power therefore reduction in emission can be made very simply but running the boilers under lower loads during the day and then ramping them up for nights. Solar systems are so simple and quick to install with 30yr guaranteed life, est 40 yrs with no losses, that with federal backing we could massively reduce power use and emissions overnight. Unfortunately the bigger picture is that oil drives the world and the control of the populous so why would they give that up?
