Maybe if they ran two lots, with one being the competition with and entry fee, and another thats not judged and free. That way you would get the best of both worlds and get a whole lot more dubs out of the car park and into the show.

Split the show into all out show cars and then cars that see regular road use perhaps.

Indeed i think you will. For if he does not go and has other vw friends im sure that they will not go and it has me convinced that it may be my last as well, and have been going for the last 10 years and its always the same cars, and this year was a very poor crowd. I already know 5 other people who will not be going anymore, do i see a snowball coming????

The best format was when it was a top 20 "Shoot Out" back at the days at Penrith or the old auction shed (i think thats what it was, good venue with the bar in the middle) no catagories just a strait one in all in. It gets away from the usual format and makes it more interesting & less predictable as to who is going to win.
The other thing I find off putting is the host club (who ever it maybe) having all their own cars entered & then judged by the same club,It is hard to be unbiased no matter what the situation is.
But then again winnig is not what its all about.
Just my 2bobs worth.

Firstly, I only started this thread to put up a few photos for those that may not have made it. Sure I didn't take photos of every car, but I wasn't there as a photographer. I went there as I am new to VW's and want to get ideas (which I did) and this was only my 2nd year there.

I agree from last year it was a bit quieter, but I don't feel as if a club that puts on a show should have to be forced to have it in a particular area. I am not a member of any club, but believe the Flat Four guys (Gals) are from out in that area. If people can travel from VIC, NSW etc to Warwick for a couple of days, surely they can travel an hour or so to a day outing. Also, I'm positive there were new cars there this year.

Personally re the trophies, I have been slowly building my own VW for the last 12 months and hope to enter my car next year and in other events. If I was lucky enough to pick up a trophy, I would be happy as. Also having had over 40 cars in 25 years, this would be the first car I have ever entered into a show and would love to win a trophy. And I hope that I will be able to win more trophies over time. So, even if you think the trophies are lame (your entitled to an opinion) for some people (me) they would treasure them and the trophies would represent an achievement.

To the Flat Four club, keep your chin up and make sure this event happens again next year and hopefully my car will be there.

Regards, Kevin

The Shootout has had a long history of hit and miss turn up, both participants and entrants.

I wouldn't say it is entirely the clubs fault.

However, while numbers are down I can understand people not going for a look. If there's a few in the family then at 10 bucks a pop it can end up being expensive for a small show.

Much the pity, because it has the venue to be the best show in NSW.

Maybe the key to bringing it up a notch is to allow/encourage all VWs to park in the paddock (as already mentioned). Compress the swap a bit so it's not so spread out.
With a big collection of dubs on the grass and the entered show cars inside it has the potential to be a great one.
Go for profit by numbers not by margin on the entry, drop the price and I'm sure you'll see more spectators. And it's spectators you want to keep sponsors interested.
Maybe reduce the number of trophies. It's quite a haul - even for a show that has double or triple the entrants. Is there really a need to have so many categories? Some things are just hangovers from the past.
Ditch the bands. Bands at car shows just don't work unless they are seriously good and put on a show that people will stay for without looking back to the cars for 45minutes to an hour. A band at a car show should encourage spectators to stay for the whole day and be a break from looking at car, not move away from the cars if they don't like the music... once they go outside what's going to stop them going all the way back to their car and off to somewhere else?
Make the spectators and sponsors judges. Very few successful car shows these days have only one people's choice. More and more they have the major awards being public choice, an award by each sponsor and a few chosen by the promoters.

Best of luck for the future. I will be back and hope to see greater numbers attending both as entrants and spectators.
