update again, just bellhousing stuff, not sure if anyone here is interested, have a link to here on VWKD now though for the umm... wet types
bellhousing size differences
wrong arm... gotta find one ive never seen before, its more square & has a ball on the end & its a VW/AUDI part, waiting on email back from
RJES about this
Me thinks this is going to need a blanket around it, & possibly some shrouding around the slaves bracket
Oh & if theres no pic's tomorrow feel free to hurl abuse my way, the other 1/2 has volunteered to help drill the mounting holes for the guards,
the battery for drill is on charge, i have the bits & files, shiny stainless bolts & washers around here somewhere too...

certainly did  no point doing things by halves now is there?
considering what else is going into the gearbox it would of been pointless to leave the standard splined one in there
the idea is bulletproof & made to look like its supposed to be there not just butchered into fitting

Hi there guys, good to see another project on the way.
I havn't done a manual subaru convertion, just want to know why you can't use the standard input shaft? is the bellhousing to long?
Keep up the progress.

hi aaron, main reason is the one richard makes is far stronger, & the subaru shaft is splined to suit the subaru clutch disc.
Therefore, the whole flywheel/clutch disc & pressure plate is all factory (or aftermarket) subaru bits, designed to handle the abuse they will be
given
currently have 1.5 aeros fitted perfectly, shame that they will have to be taken off again though, im being anally retentive on fitting them
nicely.
On a side note, the apprentice(girlfriend) now hates fiberglass
me on the other hand... meh im a vehicle builder for a living! i love this shit haha!

standard input shaft is fine you just need to use some thing like a t3/t25 friction plate |

Paid a visit to DB, the core box i have was pretty damn good, awesome news to start the weekend, floorpan should be finished its surgery monday arvo-
that was even better news for the weekend, and surfers around indy/supergp/v8supercar/oh shit we need to keep the tourists happy with racing for 4
days weekend is mental, drifting up at the broadwater was good, free too clubs.... well, this car would be finished if clubs didnt exist
should be some nice lookin things going on in this thread soon
PS thanks DB for those lights, with bonus guards attached far better
quality than the repro shit u get these days

Have you found anything to wrap round the turbo? cause i may just may be able to get you an old exhaust blanket of a jet engine at work, they have to
be replaced periodically the rotory head at work wrapped one round his exhaust in his race car and lowered cabin temps by a lot. I will see what i
can do can't promise anything though.

turbo will possibly be moved to a different location in future,(its VERY tight on space with this gear in a bug, just mocking things up as i get them
currently, whats the blanket like? I have a source for exhaust wrap for the rest of the piping, if you needed any we could trade

Yes i know the bench is filthy but other than weekends when im not working theres only a few mins a day to be in the garage 
I think that nose cone mount is going to take a long walk off a short bridge, going to need the extra inch or 2 that it takes up...

Sick days do wonders, even if you can only see out one eye! (seriously! it wasnt intentional, just made the most of an unfortunate circumstance )
Rear adjuster, front goes up & down with 2 spanners so why not make the rear the same?
It worked, original concept on SBO/GL forums for those interested but for RHD people, we can have hydraulic clutch masters fitted in almost the
original location, standard superbug brake mc makes it even easier again
Rolling shell, gotta make sure everything will fit up properly before taking it all apart again to pretty it up, Not looking forward to doing that
AGAIN so this may be a rat look subie bug for longer than planned

24mm kombi, fair bit more fluid capacity in it than the 19mm bug one, bug is really small in mounting space than the kombi though, unless your
intending on needing the extra fluid to drive bigger calipers, stick with the bug MC to make it easy, body has to be trimmed/notched to clear the mc
though, but a stitch weld on an edge is fine to replace a spot welded seam in my books, hows yours coming along steve?
The fun part will be playing with the pedal mounts & pushrod pivots now 
on a side note, only one brake light switch can be fitted in that position with the lines coming out the RHS, the clutch MC is way too close for the
switch on the rear circuit, the fronts also need the terminal bent up a fraction to clear the floorpan sheetmetal, no huge drama but worthy of mention
all the same.

Hi
What size are your calliper pistons, I ran 996 rears on the front and Boxster rears with a stock 19mm cylinder on my yellow bug OK so I will do the
same again.
I have been doing a bit of fiddling with my bug, just got my new axles ordered form the states, I'm mucking around relocating the Subaru engine
mounts now, I have a bugs@5speed sump which interferes with the stock mount location.
The pivots will not be a biggy I don't think, just a clevis for the clutch mounted directly on the pedal. With the brake pivot I was just going to
replicate the stock pivot, but relocate it behind the new brake master cylinder location.

pivot for the clutch will line up right on the pedal shaft from memory, & as for the brakes, all thats needed is to move the standard
pivot/pushrod bit over an inch or so, will take pics when its all done, one of my pedal clusters is sacrificing itself for this though but should be
simple enough to copy if anyone wants to & im pretty confident it will all work just like factory, perhaps better.
Steve, do you have pics of the sump attached to your engine? im tempted to make a sump that works with the original mounts, i think im asking too much
to support the engine & box off 8 box case studs so would like to have a little more support for the engine itself, im a long way off that part
though
piston sizes are 40's & 54's from memory, all the theory is in my toolbox at work, got sick of taking the laptop to work so will try to remember
to grab the figures tomorrow, basically i went with the kombi because the fluid capacity of the calipers combined was only a few cc's short of the
maximum for the bug MC, kombi on the other hand had approx 1.5-2x capacity, worst case senario i swap back to the bug mc but it should be ok as is
Again ill try to remember to confirm all those figures tomorrow, its been awhile since i did the maths

Hi
I'm going to work on the sump and engine mounts soon, maybe today, gotta mow the lawn and few other things first. Laying under the car yesterday I
worked out that I can move the Subaru mounts and forward and have them sitting under the heads near the exhaust manifold with a bracket going back to
the stock Subaru mounting point.
I was thinking your Master cylinder might be a bit big, Jak is using a stock 19mm with his Nissan front brakes and they have 4x45 mm pistons, but you
could fit stock 1500/76 bug master cylinder back in that area if you need to.
When you reposition the clevis for the brake master cylinder there would be an opportunity to vary the pedal ratio, like a mechanical brake booster.
With a bit of thought the clevis position could be adjustable so that the ratio could be altered to suit your master cylinder, if its too stiff you
could move the position down to give better leverage etc.

Precisely why the 10mm drop in height for the centerline of the brake mc shouldnt matter, should be softer pedal, just need to make sure the pedal
doesnt hit the body before the pushrod stops working, clearancing the body over the weekend, then hopefully lowering it down onto the floorpan for
some test fitting, getting closer to the engine i want now too, only getting a trickle of double time these days, not like when i was saving for the
gearbox unfortunately
