Precisely.

If everyone else in the world was as good at hitting a ball into a hole then no, he wouldnt get paid a cent. He got paid the money because he is the best person in the world at doing so and he gets other people spending their money. Advertising revenue would have been heaps higher due to his presence. Circulating money is good business for everyone, whether you see it directly or not.

It looks like I am going to be paying $2500 in labour only to a tiler who says the job will only take a week. The other quote I got was $3K. Thats shitloads more than what I earn despite finishing school, doing a trade and going to uni. I reckon thats pretty bloody good money for gluing pieces of ceramic in a line. I have a fair idea he could do it better than me, so he gets the cash.

My council once spent $50,000 on a trip to perth to check out their bus shelters and street lights to see if they would be good in shellharbour. If they paid a uni student $20 he could have emailed a picture. At least in Melbourne's case people benefitted. Not everybody, but but a lot of people.

If you want to talk about overpaid sport stars, lets talk about soccer, The get paid tens of millions of dollars a year and half the time when they shooot for goal they miss by a mile. Sure tiger doesnt sink every putt, but his hole is only twice the size of the ball.

And if the millions of people who threw money at a stupid horse race while pissing even more up against the wall had spent that money on charity there'd be a lot more comfortable people tonight. After all, any horse can run.
