yeh the Otto Bros car is pretty cool although a bit short in the wheel base for my liking. i think it would be a handful.
Anybody know where the Otto bros are from? I think it might be Belgium? I'll be passing through there in a few months.

Also Sue was having a Christmas clean out during the many rain periods and found some old lost VW mags. I have one from around '95 that shows a blue dragster with ping bar work called "FOUR RUNNER" running at the VW nationals at Oran park. Anyone know who it belonged to? I'll try and scan the pic.

keep the pics and info coming

That would be Earl Krygger's old car.... He built that right after he retired the supercharged gasser Oval he used to run... Don't have a lot of data on the rail though... You got any info?

what would work better? a rear engined VW trans car (ala Ottos and early Berg's), a mid engined VW trans car, or a front engined car (presuming you'd need a different trans/diff in the latter case)?

If naturally aspirated rear engine, type 1 trans and make it super light and simple. good cheap setup for warwick etc. Not so great if your aiming to set records though.

On a slightly different tack - otto brothers style dragster running mid engine ej20t and subaru auto? could be cheap and different.......

I chatted to a couple of guys that had a altered ( 4 cyl) 160inch machine at the TNT last night and one of the guys use to run solid rear with a 1800 kombi box back in the Surfers Days.... I had a good look over their car ( can you call them a car) and didn't realise how uncomplicated they can be. Check out the photo of its front end. Hey Stanley you were right on with a short wheel base, these guys said that anything no matter how much power under 160inch would be very difficult to drive...

Man that is simple. Not even the usual torsion set up. I guess when you think about it there is bugger all load on the front.
As long as you can keep the front wheels on the ground...

The other common setup for FED's is an anglia steering box or similar mounted up near the driver, with a push pull type steering linkage that runs up to the front on the side of the car. Sounds a bit rustic but works fine. And who needs a long wheelbase, not these guys.....

Yep there were two there with the "anglia steering box or similar mounted up near the driver" which were also very simple.

what about Clyde Berg's rail there? that looks good. Just wondering, why did that put that spacer between the engine and trans?

Hi There,
I have decided to start a dragster and it has taken quite a lot of time to decide what set up to go with, it will need a tech inspection and I’m working from the ANDRA rule book . I’m hoping to have it going for Warwick. Its going to be 170 inch running an irs rear engine with a solid single beam front end, I’m working on the main frame at the moment with some of details still to be made eg, how far forward to sit….
I have taken a few pics….. my wife and kids are going away for 10 days ( school holidays) so the neighbours will hate the noise….YEW!!!

Good work frosty!
If you want to narrow the rear a bit you can use auto LHS axles and pick up an inch per side.
Make the cut between the centre splines and the pivit box.

170" is pretty long, but it should work awesome!
