All these different listings for the same vehicle, and the seller's handling of them, is puzzling at best.
Quote:

i bet he's reading this lot, looking at the comments and changing things accordingly

I imagine this is true, but a review of the seller's eBay profile reveals he is inexperienced at selling.....at least on eBay.
eBay sales transactions: 0
Positive feedback: 0
Feedback score: 0
He is obviously using eBay to expand his market of potential buyers. There's certainly nothing wrong with that. One can assume the demand or even casual interest in WA is very limited. So why not give eBay a try, right? If the seller is reading this thread, he's not taking what is being said into account. If anything, he's ignoring advice and is heading in the other direction.

The wacky movement and incomprehensible pricing in all these ads, leaves one wondering if the seller truly has a grasp of what he is doing and what the marketplace is telling him.
From responses to the first auction, the market was telling him $4,950 was the ceiling as of now (that could change in the future, either up or down).
So, a new ad appears with BIN pricing set at nearly three times the highest bid in the original auction. I guess there's always hope that a new school of fish will swim by and take the bait, but given CB's are not well known generally outside (or even within) VW enthusiasts groups, he is fishing in depleted waters.
We have also seen a change in the starting bids. We go from a $19.99 AUD (the price of a fairly reasonable meal) to $11,000 AUD (perhaps an amount borrowed for a small business loan to met payroll and stock inventory). Huh? What happened here? A pre night on the town price as opposed to a morning after price after waking up with a killer hangover? Makes no sense to me, and obviously about everyone here agrees.

Positives about this CB:
1. Lots of original equipment.
2. It appears a good starting point for a restoration.
3. Seller offering to cover freight to Melbourne.

Negatives about this CB:
1. Not so well done spray over (obviously masking was not considered important). Probably would have been better to offer as it was before the expense and time to repaint.
2. Remaining questions about rust given #1, despite claims in ad.
3. Remote location which makes pre sale examination difficult if not impossible, even for most prospective Aussie buyers. Perth is supposedly the most remote capital city in the world.....and Geraldton is 430 km from there. (Here in the States we would say it is a "fur piece down the road".)
4. Fairly high mileage.
5. Revolving door of new ads and auctions with different pricing and starting bids.

Obviously every seller wants to maximize their return. That's reasonable and expected. Every potential buyer is looking for a decent price, hopefully as low as possible. That's normal too. A sale occurs (or will occur) when there is a meeting of the minds about what is a fair value. I don't think we're anywhere near that at this point in time. If what was offered in the first auction was not acceptable to the seller, then maybe he should put this vehicle on ice for a while.....maybe something will change down the line.

For something in the $13,500 range I would expect a flawless example of a CB. As I recall, Greg Cash's (volma1) CB in Tasmania sold for somewhere between $10,000-12,000. Greg's car was very, very nice. The Geraldton CB is a long way from that, even though it has good potential. A complete restoration on top of the seller's price demands, will scare all but a few brave souls away from considering this vehicle for purchase. The market will dictate what this CB is worth, and right now there is a very wide chasm between the market and the seller.
I predict this isn't going to move a bit at the asking price.
C'est la vie.

Regards,
Steve

ebay cb

to some-one who really wants one might be worth a fair price, not sure that hiis asking price is very fair though.

but you'd have to see it in person first to determine cars' underlying condition.

The journey continues.....
Yes, with 24 hours left to run in the auction the price is now $11,500 with a starting bid of $9,750.
My thought is, even if someone were truly interested in this CB, why bid now?
There might be an 18, 12, 6, and 1 hour to go in the action price forthcoming.
:spin:;)

By the time it is all said and done, that $4,950 bid in the first auction might look pretty good to the seller.
C'est la vie.

Gone again...

Not surprisingly, this listing has ended, with no bids offered.

he strikes me as the kind of guy whos offered $5k, but wants $6k, he's offered $6k, now wants $7k, etc etc, he'll never sell, he's tired of vw's, but not tired of messing people (and his own mind) around!!

The auction has ended with no sale @ $8,500.
It may be time to give it a rest for a while.

A new coat of paint, maybe Savannah Beige , a new Ebay username and a new approach might see things change for the better.
