but when its over 35c in the Sun, it doesn't take long for the temperature to rise over 50c in a car with the windows up..

many people here on hot days leave the kids in the 4WD with the engine and air conditioner going..

many cars cannot be locked with the engine going???
never tried that in a Lancer or Swift.. lol

air cooled cars should be exempt anyway... lol

do the 1/4 windows count as a "window" ???

LEE

Hi Lee. Even the lowly Falcadore has the facility to program the doors to lock when transmission is in drive since at least 2003. Stops the bastards getting in when stopped at traffic lights as long as the windows are up!!

Also, not uncommon for some creep to crawl into the back seat area whilst the owner of the unlocked car is in paying for the petrol. Could be your wife, sister or girlfriend on the end of this robbery, rape or murder. Time for many to think about the positive side to the law rather than completely knock it!

Hi Dallas,

its probably second nature to someone in a City or overseas....

but it just doesn't happen in the Upper Hunter... lol

OK on keeping You keys out of the ignition when getting fuel

as I always think that I wouldn't want someone to jump into My beetle and drive off...

and OK with cars with central remote locking....

imagine having to lock 4 doors in an older car....

and then use the key to unlock the drivers door... etc..

same as having to wind up Your windows .....

I would definately do ALL those things if I was in Sydney etc..
or even Newcastle...

but fining people in the country....

many country people still leave their keys in their cars when they get petrol... windows down etc...

and if just popping into Woolworths... windows down...
or windows up and air con on and engine running....

same as they do when opening gates etc... or checking their mail boxes... on the side of the road...

having the laws is OK... but warnings are OK too....

cheers

LEE

Wow...

Yes Chis,
I can see that the police aren't Your favorite person at the moment....

A dented number plate..??
cracked light??

I drove a Magna for about 8 years with both of those things...

My Suzuki Swift I bought in december already has a cracked tail lamp where someone has knocked it while parking...
and a chipped windscreen... on the drivers side...

In NSW in the country...
the normal police are usually friendly....

the highway Patrol officers are out to book anyone at anytime for any offence...

including fining interstate P platers for having their P plates inside the car.... in which they lose their licence...
and they love their job....

LEE as i see it...

cheers Todd :D

x2

I always leave the keys in my car at home...in the drive overnight....no problem, 1 advantage of not living in the city. :)

It really is pathetic all these stupid laws protecting us from ourselves....it's bureaucracy gone wrong or is that totally biserk!!!

the people who leave their keys in their cars are easier to find and fine.....

I have no problems with the "normal" police in the country who usually go about their duty...

and leave the people alone...
unless they are really breaking the law...

or are dangerous to other people... etc...

When there is a large function on in Scone... people park in the centre of the road, around the corners etc... anywhere..
on footpaths... etc...

I've never heard of anyone being booked because of it...

If the Police were at a service station then it is a fair bet it was due to someone complaining about something.
It's not a matter of the spin the bottle for offence enforcement each day.
A Service Station is a Road related area so the rules apply.
As for the argument about leaving kids in cars unattended. Kids have died in such instances. :grind: Thats why the government passed that law.
Just recently there were 2 kids in a car that was jacked. Was in all the papers and tv media.

Why not take your complaints to your local member who is part of the Government that passes these rules?? :fakesniff:

How the hell am I ever going to be able to fill up my buggy at the petrol station and then pay?? Drive it through the front doors or just throw the money at the attendant so I don't get too far from it? What's the saying about common sense isn't that common, for crying out loud these people who think up these laws must just sit in their offices trying to qualify their jobs. I'm not bitching about the coppers here as they're just the messengers but where is the sense in this, we actually have this happening in Noosa already so I'm just waiting for a fine:no:

That would be a stupid thing to do anyway. Yes, it is terribly inconvenient, but how many times do cars go missing with babies strapped in the back. Every couple of months. Fair enough if your kids are really ugly/little mongrels/you'd rather save your money for a 42 inch plasma, but if there is a bit of love there, dont do it. My daughter is 11, I lock her in all the time. Even before there was a law. BTW this post is sexist. I was a uni student, stay at home dad until my daughter was in year 2.

Guys,

Besides VDU.88A, did anyone actually read the law?

Read it - http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/rulesregulations/downloads/2008nswrrchanges.pdf

There is no way a cop could be issuing tickets to citizens, who leave their unattended car unlocked, while at the local service station.

Page 10 part 213 states that if you are more than 3 m from your vehicle when you leave it on a road then you must lock it up (there are a few exceptions) but my understanding is that a servo is still a road according to the law, so it appears that they can book you tho I have never spoken to any one who has personaly been booked for this offence anywhere. But then I am not an expert in matters of the law.

I suppose you could say that if they were doing a REALLY GOOD job, there would be no need to lock your car - there would be no car thieves out there!

You need to lock your IF IT CAN BE LOCKED, by the way.

Cheers, Greg

The wife's Pt Cruiser locks the doors when you drive away and reach 24 km/h. It's weird until you get used to it.

Isn't it also illegal to lock your kids in the car. The two laws contradict themselves.

We had pay pay at the bowser at our local Mobil servo. The card readers were always unavailable pecially on weekends) so you had to go in and pay at the counter. Obviously they figured out that they were losing too much money with no-one coming into the shop.
