How much do you have to spend on one? I'm thinking of around 30k + and you should find one for sure!

Thats not the issue , only select notchbacks will have the provision for the pop outs, all notches will have the gap for the pop out hinge but there
is a metal tongue that holds the pop out in and quite alot of type 3s dont have this tongue. I too have the pop outs Ben (Thanks for offer)

no worries
have B pillar sections n tounges too
and a trick to getting around the issue if you have no metal tounge - hence the popouts in my red notch
so Matty go get a car and then build it the way you want...!

the catch.....but not sure about the 'tongue'.....can you give me a bit of an idea of what I am looking for please Empi?
Cheers!
Paul
PS.....sorry for hi-jacking your thread Shaven....at least its keeping it at the top of the list though!

There is a rectangular slot in the b pillar some cars came with a metal tongue welded in and other cars didnt (u wont know till u pull side windows
out) it is pretty random with Aussie cars some have em some dont, Pop outs were marketed to colder weather climate countries.
I found this link on Samba.com photos will give an indication of what i am talking about.

Thanks for that Empi...really appreciate your help on the research.
I was surfing the Samba earlier (ssshhhh....I was supposed to be working while at work, but dont tell anyone! ), and came across this thread....it shows an indepth way of fitting the popouts using beetle popout
hinges, rather than the original tabs. Seems like a pretty good idea to me....the hinges are readily available through Cip1 or the like, and all it
needs is a small hinge cover, which is also very available.....sounds like a good idea if the car doesnt have the tongues, and you cant find a donor
section from another car to weld in.
Check it out and let me know what you think....

Yeah i saw this too, i see no reason why you wouldnt be able to do the beetle style hinge bit of fiddleing but doable, I have no idea why Vw decieded
to go this type of hinge and not the beetle way. (I am sure there is some kind of logic behind it) Pulling the type 3 pop outs apart can be a prick
especially the little phillips head screws that always thread
Have a look and see if you have the tongues first it may save you alot of time etc.

just checked my Notch and also a donor Notch that I have....neither have the tongues
looks like I'll be going down the track of the Beetle hinges......at least there is a solution out there for me!
Hope you find an early Notch or Fasty Shaven.....at least you know what to look for if you want to fit popouts
Thanks guys!

What are the chances of another person in Ballarat looking for a type 3.
Like I said, if you ever think of selling it - let me know.
Cheers Paul.
