empi are you sure BRMs will bolt straight on? What tyre? Which BRM repro? I've seen offsets of +5,+10,+14 and Isac on this form said his were +25 (which I'd think should fit) but even his rubbed the rear guards with 165s and he went to short axles. We tried to put Flat4 ones on a fasty(not mine) with 175/80 tyres and no way.

Yeah more than likely have to do axle swap , not uncommon for a type 3 , if you have a pre 64 car the wheels bolt on no probs as the drums are thinner and this achieves clearance. Take a look at the pics of my red notch in members rides, i had a plethora of different wheels on that car over the years and diddnt have to modify anything.

Well iv been Saving and researching wheel and tyre options for the girl and came to the decision of BRMs.

Main reason was not having to change the drive line at all due to the same studd pattern.

I went and purchased some out the classifides section on here. They are 15x4.5`s in silver. I was after the black option but went these as i had been told the Offset on these would be easier to fit.

So this is where im up to after trial fitting the rear left wheel.. Got it down and rollable after letting the car settle over the new wheels but have a area along the inner edge of the arch about 5 inches long that rubs..

Now my Two options that i know of would be to have the inner lip rolled up , This would be virtually unnoticable but would change the very origional condition body work that i would prefer to leave un changed.

The other that i have only herd mentioned is a axle swap. Not really sure what this includes but herd its allot of work.

Whats your guys opions on the problem ?

Cheers Vice

It's looking fantastic mate. I love the new wheels.

If it were me, I'd get it rolled. I understand your choice to keep it all original, but changing the axle sounds like quite a large job. Then again, I've had no experience in things like that. But it sounds like the easier option and I believe it's quite common.

Find some one who knows the parts needed and how to do a short axle conversion. You will be happier in the end.

Hey Vice!

Etta looks nice on the BRMs, but as you said, it seems a shame to roll those beautiful OG guards.

Ive been doing a lot of research myself while saving the pennies, and cam across this thread on Thesamba regarding the short axle conversion.

Its a pretty comprehensive run down on how to do the job....hope it helps mate!

Hey guys.

Thanks for the kind words about Etta, I really am liking the way they look on her but still havent got it to a drivable state yet.

I think I am going to go down the Short axle route. So Thanks heaps Scarab for that link. Just the kinda info im after. Now all i need to do is learn what all the part names hes using are and go about fetching them. Anyone who has done this I would love any info you can give me.

Cheers Vice. PS more pics will come as it comes along. I might do a write up on the process.

4.5in wheels mate standard 165s on the back 135s on the front.

Thats the reason i went with silver ( I was after black ) As far as id seen you can only get them in 5.5 over here.

but the ones i got are imported ones that have been in a shed for the last 4 years. So no idea where they came from but he said the UK somwhere.

I think these also have a different Offset ( dunno how much that helped, As i havent tried the 5.5 ones on her)

Ohh ok. I think the offset would have had something to do with it. That's why I asked about the tyre width. I just put 185's on a 5.5" wide rim and they fitted fine all round. I bought them in Australia though. Then again, our Type 3's are different year models.

Yea man. All BRM`s dont fit type 3s standard. The ones I baught are meant to be the closest offset to standard i can find.
