hey guys, 66deluxe in particular.. i had a talk to kevin today and he has a type 4 2.4 litre with a mild cam, 103mm bores, the largest valves possible
(thats what he told me) and its balanced.. it also has a high compression ratio that is the largest you could go without being unreliable, anyway him
and his son built it about 10 years ago but his son lost interest in the vw seen for the muscle, now its not assembled but its all there how much do
you think this is all worth, they said they spent 6 grand on it back then but they tried to sell it a year ago for 4grand but had no bites, if i put
an offer for 3000 maybe? well i would have to save it all up

The 2.4 would have cost 6K 10 years ago, paying 4k for it a year ago for all the parts is still a bargain, you could offer 3 if youlike. Ask him what
exact heads they are and what cam it is.

i just went over there to talk about the 2.4 and some other stuff and it has MASSIVE stainless steel valves on it, im not sure of the size but i will
verify the size once i verify that i am actually buying it, found out some other stuff aswell. it has racing forged pistons aswell! talk about a
opportunity, he says his son will probablyy want something close to 4 thousand but i ges we could nudge that down a little, all i can say is that all
the work has been done and it was done by a trained mechanic and machine shop person
i have just arranged to buy 2 fiberglass front fenders from Barry Lord.. they look sweet and will save me heaps of time on body work. also later in
the project i will buy a back set so that if i have a prang its not with original steel

ok so here goes.. last few months have been slow, i have saved to buy some more parts. bought some front fiberglass fenders from barry lord (perfect
56 moulds) and im soon going to be buying the rear ones.
many other small parts aswell. here is what i have done:
Cut the old H apron out because it was stuffed.
Cut alot of rust out near the rear right bumper bracket.
paint type 4 valve covers with VHT WRINKLE PAINT.. waiting for results in the morn
overhauled the pedal cluster
overhauled the wiper motor assembly with near armatures, and blades
removed bolts from body in prep for body off pan restoration,
gathered many parts for my 36hp build

ok so here goes, fuel tank etch primered, filler primer then top black coat!.. access holes paint same method, hand brake, steering wheel tube,
indicator stalk.. etch primered..
$87.00 later i finally tracked down a RHD rear veiw mirror for my oval.. it is in pretty good shape... some of the chrome is flaking but i cant really
do anything about it 
i had a WW sun visor in my parts stash whcih i can use

hey guys, i have been indulging in restoring the easy stuff..
going to be welding the NEW (klokerholm one was incorrect) heater channel in in about 3 weeks time aswell as the right side rear qaurter panel.. and a
few spot holes that need welding up.

Good work there Blair.Wish I had started something like you are doing at your age-guess when I was your age,there wasn't a lot of stuff around.I have
a 2.7 fuel injected Type 4 in an Oval and it's awesome to drive.That motor you are looking at is a bargain.I have put all the good stuff into my
engine-C/W forged crank,good heads with big valves,forged pistons etc,so I have a bit of an idea of what it would cost for all the bits your friend
has bought.Don't hesitate,grab it.You were very lucky finding an Oval in such good condition.If you have any questions about squeezing a Type 4 into
an Oval,always happy to help.You will need to modify your fuel tank if you are going with fuel injection.

hey, thanks for the comment..
yeah my dad has told me i should focus a bit more on the body work (hence the welder) so i am aiming to get it paint some time soon, so i wont have
the money to save for that type 4.. on another note, when you say modify the fuel tank you mean making a swirl box? correct?, well i know someone has
asked this somewhere but couldnt you just make like a large diameter flat cylinder, with a fuel inlet (from the tank) a line going to the efi inlet
and a line coming from the efi outlet?

No I haven't bothered with that stuff-just thread the original centre fitting 1/4 BSP for a 10mm barbed fitting and you will need a return line back
into the tank somewhere from your fuel pressure regulator.For this I made a fitting with a 1/4 bsp female thread-and silver soldered it to the bottom
of the tank-about 150mm away from the centre fitting,and to the passenger side.I silver soldered a 10mm diameter piece of pipe into a barbed
fitting(threaded end) for the centre suction fitting that protrudes into the tank about 40mm,just so you don't suck any shit off the bottom.EFI is a
big ,expensive step,but very user friendly.My car doesn't get started sometimes for a couple of months,but it fires instantly and idles smooth
straight away and can be driven cold with out any backfiring or spluttering.

I have also done a EFI setup that is very easy.
Similar to NB, 10mm out of tank gravity feeding through a strainer (not filter) into a small catch tank mounted on outside of front passenger
firewall. From there it goes into a bosch 930 fuel pump, through a filter and into the engine. From the engine the fuel is then plumbed back into the
fuel tank. I have also vented the catch can into the fuel tank incase of any airlocks. A good thing to note is that you should make your tank breath a
little better than the factory screw on lid. You can look at my old build thread to see how I did this.

good to see you went for the CIG mig, good unit for what you are planning. Not sure how much experience you or your dad have with welding but just in
case better to have it said than not, I would not mig the fuel tank or even braze it without a very thorough wash out with soapy water. In fact I
know guys who won't weld fuel tanks unless they are full of soapy water. petrol fumes can cause huge explosions so beware....
if you google mig welding there are some great youtube vids on the how to and little tricks, but as most things practice makes perfect.... good luck

note: i got the H apron without the exhhaust cutouts, (pre 55) because i thought it would be different and i dont need them anyway

hi alan, they are from Tomasz at "kdf services"
there are three options either autokrft (sloppy mouldings but cheap)
Kdf services (good/very good moulding and average price)
wolf parts (very very expensive and from what i have seen about as good as wat i bought)
