private little boys club

Was disabled as well. After some research its by invite only. Guess they dont like people admiring or wanting to purchase parts for restoration as it would propably be to much competition. Anyway, Im going to leave them with their little clubby club and talk to the adults in this and other forums.

The above comment goes to show why it's invite only, and last time i checked i was infact female so it seems they do let girls in, god forbid!

Looking at some of the join dates from people who have commented, they have not been around long enough to know how good Aussieveedubbers used to be. It went to the dogs because too many big ego's behind keyboards ruined it for others and turned this place into something other than a common enjoyment of VW's. Melburg Luft have put a barrier up to stop this happening. Want something, make it happen? It makes people talk to others in the VW community, there are plenty of Lufters at VW shows to talk to. Have the attitude as above, and you wont be welcome. It's a great place, with great people!

I find some people take this vw interest a little too seriously. I don't have a problem finding out all I need to know from this forum or one of the many others that freely welcome members. The last thing I want to do is have to hunt out some dude in an "exclusive" jacket at a show and then ask them if they could pretty please ask the gods if I could be invited into thier world...but that's just me.
That said, I understand thier reasoning and it's a free world for the melburg'ers to do what they like! More power to em!

Sorry Miss VDub,
Was politically incorrect. Little girls and boys club. As per your further comments, that is only for selfactualisation and validation. Hu:lol:tch, I agree with you. Not interested in looking for people in trenchcoats either.

Hi Lee, understood. There are a number of new veedubbers that want to show of there wares or get to know people with similar interests just like me. Most people I've dealt with in the various forums including you are great people and easy to get on with. I was removed from Mel not because I said anything but because I did not post enough.Attempted to get in touch without any response which was disappointing. In any forum you'll get your bad apples which can easily be dealt with but that should not affect everyone. Anyway, really happy with the KG, bought new wheels, disc brakes,1835 engine and some other bits. Still looking for some additional bits and will hopefully have it on the road soonish. Will say hello shortly and its nice to hear from you.

I so love these posts..... Stan.... i understand your dissapointment.... there are some great looking cars owned by members of "the luft"

Now i dont want to step on any toes here but i will cause its a free forum...... please excuse the Quotes but hey...

what they are looking to try and achieve is a word of mouth system to register,
the reason for is it is to keep keyboard bandits and postal spammers and other internet junk out (like porn, viagra ads etc etc)
I've run a forum for another make of car before and know what its like to try and monitor and stay on top of and its really a full time job
so these guys are trying to work around that with a new registration system (and they are all part time volunteers)
so if you head to a local vw event and chat to anyone that has a luft sticker or tee on them or their car, chances are they will be able to refer you or get you a code
it's another way of making sure its all about vw heads that are actively involved in their local scene etc too
by no means are they trying to be elitists... just trying to control the forum to members not interweb junk....
hope thats some help

cheers ben
and before everyone jumps on the bandwagon that they are only into ratty low cars , thats bull too...
early, late, shiney, matt, ratty whatever - there are gallieries and members for all sorts, years, models etc...

Ben said jack except its invation only ( But not directly). I can understand that they want to keep the membership down. Forums cost money to run and Bandwidth aint cheap.

the way of the world is the internet allows us to see the world, but not leave the house...

Well except if you want to know the special code with the decoder ring....

Now i'm not picking on you ben(awesome type3's BTW) in fact you were the only one to try and make sense out of it all and kudo's to you for tryin. But face facts..... the odds are against you.
First impressions last and i'm sure if the perticular member you talk to may take your advances the wrong way what right does that member have to judge who you are and if you are "Fit" for the forum?

Now i wont quote that other attempt to bring light into the reasoning behind why its invation only... (Atleast it was admitted its invitation only) but i can tell you that bringing up join dates and "The good old days" is simply a joke. Go find me the earliest join date here and i'll tell you that its bullshit. This forum is version 2 after the original forum was cancelled due to rising advertising and spam. AVD has never "Gone to the dogs" but like every free forum it will always have its ups and downs. AVD is still and always will be about free speech and facing the replies..... Not Hiding behind a closed forum.....
Maybe its my Big Ego talkin but if you have been around long enough (check MY join date) and you see alot more than meets the eye.
Yup i have an attitude and thats because i'm passionate about it. Strike 1.
I dont post here often so i guess i'm a lurker too... thats strike 2.
I'm sure its a great place and i know its got some great members.....
Maybe its best i stick to AVD then... there's no place like home.

I'm very confused about all the hype,

I've been a long time member of this forum and was a member of the original forum too. Melburg Luft was started because a few mates and I decided we'd like a place where people who are into the style of cars we love could gather to talk shit and share their experiences.

After a few years we thought the forum had lost sight of what we'd set out to create, It had become Generic (for want of a better term) We then as a group (the whole forum) made the decision to close the doors and delete the "0" post users as they hadn't contributed to the forum since joining. Members were given at least a months notice that this would happen.

I'm not sure why any of this needs to be justified to anyone?? Our admin e-mail is out of order at present, so yes you may not have had a response, for that I'm sorry. We except new members every week and are far from elitist, nor do we have "exclusive Jackets", our merchandise is available for purchase at any Vic show.

If you'd like to join, come along to one of our monthly meets at Rancho Deluxe in Collingwood and introduce yourself they're held on the first Saturday of every month.

Again I apologise, All we are trying to do is have more of a community feel to our forum, Just imagine if you could put a face to every name on here wouldn't that be great.

I hope this will clear up any miss-understandings, if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to PM me,

Regards,

Rhett (Melburg Luft Admin)

Again, thanks for clearing that up phat bug. I was one of the ones who were originally trying to get into Melburg Luft after seeing their style of cars and that was exactly what I was dreaming of in a car for many years. I understand what you're looking for in a community. I guess people were just annoyed that they were getting no responses and are used to seeing forums as a public thing and free to join.

So I guess if its "check us out and let us check you out " then its a bit hard to join if you live outside of Melbourne then?

I have no hassle with it except for when folk post links "for sale" or "check this out" onto other sites. Why bother posting if all you are doing is advertising to your own site?

Meh, Don't worry Stan, we have things that go faster, hang lower and receive more air cooling than anything posted on any site where we work. There is more "BANG" for your buck there, just look outside your window
