Yeah, but when the law changes, you can always make a good argument towards the most permissive one.

Don't know about the Eastern States but here in WA the RTA say you can tow what the manufacturer says you can. This is based on the assumption
that the manufacturer did their homework and engineered things properly. If the manufacturer doesn't quote a figure, a fairly conservative figure
is reached based on the tare weight of the towing vehicle. Why conservative? So that, in these litigous times, the Authority doesn't get sued
when some idiot mows down a bus queue whilst towing a Coaster with a mini, having been told it was legal.
Remember, there's a lot more to the dynamics of a towing combination than just power and brakes.

yeah thats what I have got. And I say its crap. A kombi will pull (and stop) 800kgs WITHOUT brakes. I'd rather do repeated stops with a kombi
than my old EF falcon. 2 stops from 80kays towing the fastback and the brakes on it were gooooooooone.
I guess I'm about to have a GVM of near enough 3000kgs. 1280(min) for kombi 410 for trailer, 900 for fastback, 160 of people, + tools + BBQ +
luggage. Makes you wonder how that tiny little gearbox input shaft does it.

Ok all you edumacated people out there, does anyone know how heavy the back end of a Kombi is (weight over rear axle for 72-79 model)?
Rough guesstimate from above figures, ~1100kg for body ~200kg for engine and GB. So ~550kg front, 750kg rear??
So if you made a trailer out of the rear end you'd expect ~400kg for the trailer (no motor and roof etc removed) and can easily handle ~800kg of
pay load. Sound fair??
