Does anyone know the colour name/code for the white used on a 1965 Type 3.
Car has Made in Germany on the build plate but would have been an Australian sold model.

Hi Notch Nut,
Australian 65 type3s where Polar White and they had Made in Germany on the Vin plate.
Here is a link to Australian Volkswagen Dulux paint codes I found. I hope this helps.

I wrecked a turquoise type 3 wagon (1965) with a colour code tab on the front behind where the spare wheel is located but on the notch is a welded tab
with the numbers B3714. I am assuming that this is also reffering to a paint code of some sort. It doesn't correlate to any colour codes. I found
it rather strange that for 2 cars made in the same year(ish) one is rather obvious about its colour codes and the other is rather vague. I'm going
to take some photos and post them to show you what I mean.
Here we go...

Notch Nut,
The welded on plate that is on both the cars is some sort of numbering system they used in the Australian Volkswagen factory in the manufacturing of
the bodies. The paint code was on a silver sticker that the Turquoise still has but the white car seems to have lost.
Make sure the white car is a 65. 65-66 models will have a 5 or a 6 as the 3rd digit on chassis number. That would make the car Polar White, If it is a
67-68 (with a 7 or 8 as the 3rd digit) it will be Lotus White as per the paint chart.
63-64 models had different numbering system and the 3rd digit thing did not apply. (I think after 64 the numbering system changed???)
Your Turquoise car must be earlier than 65 going by the colour chart.

The white car is a 1965 reg'd notch (been in family since 74) and never to my knowlege had a paint label on it. It is a 315 chassis no car though.
Back then was the paint done by Dulux? I am curious because I have a guard that needs a respray but the paint is faded and needs to be colour matched
so a general paint code/colour would be an ideal starting point to go by. The turquise car has since been wrecked but I have kept the front half
intact as a "spare".
