"cant lose from here surely"
oh yeah, thats what we needed. Hopefully a hard fought draw or aussie win in Melbourne to spice up my day 1 ticket for Sydney.
Good to see the curators finally came up with a 40 wicket pitch!!!
Feel sorry for Peter Roebuck in tomorrows papers. He's had to go from "sack all english players and selectors" to "sack all aussie players and
selectors" and now he is going to have to go back to the former again. Must be hard to be him.

bloody poms. Outplayed and outclassed us in every facet. We're a bit of a 3 man show at the moment. Take out Hussey Haddin and Siddle and we're very
second rate.

I have to say I've lost a faith in pointing, but there are plenty who aren't performing. If Clarke is the replacement, he's not exactly performing
either. So where does that leave us?

When companies are going bad, you don't sack the mail boy and expect things to improve. You have to start at the top.
1. The ACB - who is James Sutherland and how many Tests has he played? None. Get rid of him and replace him with a tough, experienced former cricketer
who knows what is required - Allan Border or Steve Waugh for example.
2. The ACB needs to rethink their summer schedule. Playing more meaningless 50-over and 20/20 matches is not the way forward. The English had longer
to get ready for this series than we did - we were busy playing 5 meaningless 50-over matches in India. The season needs to be restructured around the
Sheffield Shield, so that current Test players can regularly play for their state. How else can young players learn and make the next step up? Then
Test selection can follow based on form, not reputation.
3. The selection panel needs a broom through it. Sack Hilditch - he was an awful opening bat in the 1970s and an even worse selector now. I am not
sure about Greg Chappell either - I don't trust him - but he brings some experience at least. The panel needs to be FULL TIME and comprised equally
of bowlers and batsmen. At the moment they are all batsmen since Big Merv was sacked. ALL selectors should be required to attend Sheffield Shield
matches.
4. Sack the 'coach' Tim Nielsen, an ordinary Sth Aust Shield player who never played a Test, so what can he possibly teach Test players? Sack him,
and delete the 'national coach' position entirely. As Warne once said, the only coach the team needs is the diesel-engined one that takes them to
the ground. By the time you play for Australia, you should KNOW how to bat, and how to bowl. If you are having troubles, go back to Shield cricket and
work it out yourself. Test cricket is not the place to learn the basics. Nor are coaches required for 'strategy' or 'planning' as the match
progresses - that's the captain's job. Australia never had a coach at all for 109 years until Simmo was appointed in 1986 during the South African
rebel crisis. Armstrong, Woodfull, Bradman, Hassett, Benaud, Simpson, Lawry and Chappell never needed a 'coach' for their team and we don't need
one now.
5. There needs to be a continual, gradual replacement of champion players for upcoming youngsters. At the moment we keep the old blokes on for years
after their best, mollycoddling them and trying to send them off on a 'high'. Then suddenly BANG, three or four retire at once and we are in crisis
for a few years. It happened in the early '50s (Bradman, Lindwall, Miller, Brown, Morris); it happened in the early '80s (Chappell, Lillee, Marsh)
and it's happening now. Hayden and Langer were allowed to play two more years longer than they should have, hence our opening troubles now. We should
expect to blood at least two or three new Test players each year. Keeping an unchanged side for three or four years, as we did up until 2008, is a
recipe for long-term disaster.
6. I was going to say that it's time for Ricky to take his place in the Channel 9 commentary box alongside his former captains, but on second
thoughts, no. His 100mph speech is too annoying, and anyone who describes Test matches as 'games' or batsmen as 'batters' should stay away and
watch baseball instead. Plus does Ricky know anything about field placements?
Good luck to the Poms, too good for us this time. Looking forward to Sydney and hope to get there on one of the days.

it may have been shortened, but at least we lasted the whole day. obvious lapses in concentration are killing us. why? Seems we learnt how to leave
balls alone that shouldnt be hit, but appears that because english can bowl 6 concecutive balls in the right spot we get bored out?
I reckon there was more heaps more pom supporters there than aussies. Clarke got a massive boo when he walked out in Pontings absense. They appear to
have their next anti-hero.

Good to see we offered a little resistance, but Clarke failed yet again. If he wasn't made captain, his place would have to have been in some doubt
as well.

But they do have better bouncers too, Gary...
England have been better than us in every facet of the game - batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy - as well as the intangibles like planning,
preparation, team harmony. Well done lads, you deserved to win - but what a win. Biggest England team total ever in Australia; most runs in an Ashes
series ever, biggest run/wicket differential ever, first time we've ever lost more than one match by an innings - and we're going to lose THREE of
them that way.
We are due for a major review, a major cleanout and a major restructure. But it won't happen because everyone is cosy and this time next week we'll
be playing pyjama cricket and all will be forgotten - especially if we win one or two. I predict it will take a bombing out of the World Cup in a
month or two before heads will roll.

well, I feel I was so hard done by at the SCG I'm off to homebush to watch T20 NSW v WA. That way I have a 22 chances of seeing an Australian hit a
ball! Wish me luck.
And now my sms inbox is getting flooded with aussie cricket jokes from gloating poms. Will be interesting to see them go up against their next
opponents to find out if they are really that good or we are just too bad for words.

I'll be at the Twenty20 as well Chris - might bump into you for a beer.
We need to worry about how WE will go against our next Test opponents - against Sri Lanka IN Sri Lanka in August. Then after that we play South
Africa, and then India next summer. Ouch - some more pain coming up if no changes are made.
Andrew Hilditch says that all is OK, the selectors (including himself) did a 'really good job' and we were just outplayed. Yeah, three innings
defeats in four tests is 'outplayed' all right. What an arrogant, ignorant and self-serving prick. He was a selfish, inflexible and very ordinary
opening batsman in the 1970s and nothing has changed. He was also famous for being given out Handled The Ball in 1978 - the only balls he handles now
are the ones in his trousers.

I didnt end up going. I was running at homebush in the morning so got an awesome parking spot in P1. In pole position to get out the door at the end
if the cricket. But didnt fancy waiting around all day only to find that it had been rained out so left at about 11:30. Maybe I'll go on the 29th.
Hopefully aussies may start to salvage a little tomorrow.
I'm still getting hammered with pommie sms and emails. *sigh*
