Hi guys, first post.
I bought a pair of Bert3 dropped spindles last year and have just got around to fitting them. Problem is I've seen references to deflection tests etc. and would like to hear from anyone who is actually using them on their T3.
I have an Engineer handling the body mods (chopped, sectioned, A and B pillars moved and raked, 18x8 wheels, bonnet and guards etc.) which he's cool with but I'm wondering if these spindles will freak him out.
Anyone got any info?

because im sooo tech minded hahaha
from what ive been told (explained) that because these spindles are milled (they look farking awesome) & not cast then they would be fine when it comes to any stress test, performance test or deflection testing...
im getting some:cool:

Your not planning to run wide 5 disk brakes with those spindles are you?
Those BerT3 spindles are pretty specific to regular type3 (4stud) disk brake calipers. Custom wide five kit might be a little tricky to fit from what I can tell cause stock VW calipers are too thick to fit between the disk rotor and the wheel stud flange. I'd really like to see a set up-close before I shelled out for them or decide to use standard brakes that I know will fit. I know Vlad tried to set up these spindles with that big brake set up he bought from another forum member but he couldn't make it fit. Id hate to buy such a killer spindle and then be faced with compatibility issues cause I'm trying to keep the car on wide 5 stud pattern. I know with enough ingenuity and access to different calipers and machinery there's probably a solution to that dilemma (Wide five disks with street legal drop spindles) but its a spendy proposition with no guarantees of success. Aarrrgh, my head hurts.

The bert3 spindles are friggin awesome, but with some problems, they are engineered with no margin for further mods. Stock factory ball joints, factory calipers and factory spec'd wheels are a must.

For that reason I sold mine, as much as I tried I could not fit larger brakes (only exception I think is CSP vented brakes for type 3), even had problem with the ball joints too coz oz must of used a different OEM supplier compared to Germany? a Royal PITA. So I went from brakes over lowering. Brakes are a must for me so the choice was a no brainer :kiss:


having said all of this, there is a chance volvo or BMW calipers might fits, but you are breaking balls with clearance.

ok if you really want to use the BerT3 spindles then you need the CSP brake kit (same footprint but wider calipers and wider vented disks)

And then you will need a racing/street compound pads like QFM's A1RM pads. You should be pretty damn close to having enough brake performance for 150-200hp engine with these spindles. Type 3s are heavy and need the brakes.

So many people seem to say the type 3 brakes are awesome, imho they are rubbish. probably coz most people would of come from beetles so they say they are good lol.

Mine bolted up perfectly ok, 4 stud and stock discs. Been driving on them for about 4 years now. Only complaint came from the tyre shop doing the new alignment as the lower ball joint is quite close to the rim.

I tired every ball joint I had, all interfered with the spindles, was going to get some metal milled but by then I had tried my bigger calipers but wouldn't fit, so I gave lol

Anyway, if your going stock they are a real good bit of kit, I would highly recommend them.

Yeah they certainly look the part, question is will they meet the tests if the Engineer gets all bitter and twisted? They've been around for years and I was hoping someone would have tried to meet the Vehicle Standards by now. I've had a look at the Code (thanks) only got halfway thru before the brain turned to mush, too old for this stuff.

Tempted to get the body mods signed off without the spindles etc. but it's going to look strange (crap) with stock wheels and tyres, don't think he'll buy it and even if he did the plate recognition cameras would soon take the fun out of it.

Will wait to see if anyone else chips in. Photo taken when re-radiusing the wheel arches.

I was looking into buying these , But I also have a T1 Beam I think I'm better off using the T1 Beam.

I know I'll never get a reply but Transformer must be from around my way ..

I see all the conversions for a type one beam but these are made for a lighter car and i do not see how they any engineer would aprove that conversion
