skewy

i didn't time 1st laps id they didn't stop
every one did 2nd lap at full throttle so i timed a flying lap for the drivers.

i'm not saying that the times are perfect but there are consistent

my vote for the best spin (that i saw anyway) goes to tony draper (in the white 68 with the brown engine lid) for his snap spin on the straight late on sat afternoon.
my vote for the most entertaining to watch... it's a toss up between the golf (when the welsh guy was driving) and the honda S600 (that car was so nice).

Definitely the Honda, I've got a nice spin on digital video. It's just a pity that it wasn't a VW.

Am still interested in a copy of any videos around. I'll be up in Sydney at the end of the month too if anyone from there has a video of the racing they would'nt mind copying?

By those times (unofficial, of course, but as can be seen, bugeye seemed to be surprisingly consistent with the sometimes difficult task of timing), Ben did a quickest of 56.6 vs Craig's 52.1

What a fun event, several months ago now though.:D

Yawn, back to my trophy filled office:D :kiss

P.S. I didn't realise Stan's 1916 was more than 4 1/2sec in front of that other open wheeler that's fantastic, congrats:thumb to "Stan" the man

The other open wheeler did sound very under powered though.:(

Oooops... I must have made a mistake...Shock, horror... I was simply drawing conclusions from the times posted... I didn't realise I was bagging yours - or anybody else's - engines, but after your comment: "hate to harp on it but Craig and Greg were not that quik even with the slicks on the back of both cars" I easily worked out that from the times shown here, Craig's Pobjoy-powered 1916cc Beetle, with a 'flying' (second lap) time of 52.1 seconds was faster than you did on the day. And I don't recall any Greg or Craig using slicks, not that it matters.
I might go and hang my head in shame at my alleged mortal error for about three nanoseconds and then have a beer and a laugh with Craig in his trophy-filled office...:thumb

Oh yeah - welcome to a very exclusive VW Club with the purchase of a Country Buggy! I'll race you to completion! Given that I've done about 6 hours' work on mine in the last year, that's one race you CAN win...

i took the times with 2 hand held stopwatches.

i did not adjust the times, or knowingly make any errors.

clearly craig's time is questionable, and much faster than his others i will attempt to find all times and post

Ben, I hope you don't mean 'unloaded' as in 'sold'? What sort of shape/condition is it in? There's another CB up around Lake Mac that I've seen, too

Post all the times you want, as far as I'm concerned it was all untimed, a day for show and fun, not competition. If I was quickest great:thumb If I was the slowest great:thumb

r we all forgeting the reason for events like valla and others, so all people who like vw's can some together and if they like racing have some FUN competition.

If stuff like the L bug post, this post and the 1916 post continue and the seriousness of the racing etc at valla continue these events will die.

everybody is here to have FUN. with some ppl spoiling it.

Craig,
No one, nor I every said it was offical, i didn't take times to proclaim a winner, or losers, or for that matter the best engine builder, raleigh is hardly the best track to judge power output.

i took them so the drivers could get a benchmark of their own times, seeing that the organisiors were banned from timing.

Nobody saw much of other peoples results until sunday night at the dinner.

I don't think either of you (ben and craig) are winning any converts with the bilious repartee you go on with. I think you both have powerful well built engines, stick them on the same dyno the same day if you want wanking rights, how you judge longetivity may pose more problems.

everybody can have a preference or favorite, or just happily run our 13&15&16 hundreds and be just as happy as having one of SP's 1915 or a stroked lump in the back.

Why should that preference lead to abuse or ridicule ??
