thanks everyone i had a great day ran a best of 11.001 at 122 mph best win was with ben my dial in was 11.0 ben's was 7.3 i ran a 11.061 ben ran a
7.344 i won on reaction time mine was .198 to .244

Drag racing legend Benny Gatt driving a 2000hp supercharged Ford gets beaten in round 2 by WPVW's Ben Ford driving his 260hp supercharged VW bug .
It was an awesome race with Ben Ford winning by Holeshot with a better reaction time . Ben Ford ran a pass of 11.06 on a 11.00 dial-in while Benny
Gatt ran a pass of 7.34 on a 7.30 dial-in . When Ben Ford crossed the finish line he was doing approx 120mph to Benny Gatts' 177mph . What a lovely
bunch of blokes Benny Gatts' team are , coming over shaking hands and congratulating Team WPVW . They also made mention that Benny Gatt was never
going to live this down as his wife has 2 beetles . The mocking confirmed as early as his pit arrival from many of his drag racing mates .
Excellent driving Ben Ford winning the TOP GAS class for the event , very proud of you mate . Runner up in the class was Darren Hobson in "Cranky
2" from Team CBB . That meant that VW had a 1 - 2 in this class against some pretty big cars indeed . Well done guys !!
Chris Bolton ran his new turbo drag bug down the quarter for the first time with a pass of 10.58 @ 123.5 mph . ANDRA officials were very quick to
visit Chris in the pits and ask him to put the bug away for the day and not bring it back until it has been tech inspected . To their surprise Chris
agreed to do this with the biggest smile I have seen in a long while . Well done Chris !!
And my son Dean , first time at WSID and first time on a quarter mile strip . Driving his 69' beetle that he restored last year for his HSC tech
& design project , he ran a best time on his 3rd run breaking out by just 0.028secs with a pass of 13.472 @ 99mph on a 13.50 sec dial-in . Well
done Dean , very proud of you mate !!

Awesome show of power from the volksie over the weekend! Good and bad all round but nothing but smiles and the vw's had it all from1and 2 in top gas
we were never gonna out shine the super bogans but we can all go home with our heads held high!And on the weekend of Peter keegans induction to the
hall of fame and the camel car showed the kids how it was and as far as I'm concerned all the Vw competitors showed them How it still is!from my
little shitty Vw streeter and roses turbo 1916,deans streeter,the drag/streeters of henry,chris and steve to the blown madness of bens and all the cbb
beasts we showed them we gotta be taken seriously!Henry can't wait for the winters or what ever it is gonna be you just have to turn up I've got the
rest sorted crew motor home food it's all good!Can't wait for the next big Vw assault on the v8s!

Congratulation’s to Ben Ford and the Wayne Penrose crew for a good showing at the Retro Drags at Sydney Dragway on Sunday, beating a 7 second Ford
Falcon driving by Benny Gatt by 0.400 seconds
In total 8 VW Beetles and one buggy attended the event
Rose Merret debuted her old Nude Bug now fitted with a new Turbo engine and Rancho Gearbox. This was her first attempt at a full quarter and ran
13.8 at 97mph
The other good showing came from Chris Bolton ( WPVW ) which ran too fast for a non ANDRA Tech car and now he has to have a ANDRA inspection done
Henry Spicak had 3 runs with his yellow beetle but no joy he broke out on the first run in the semis

Sitting in the stands and listening to the public was a blast ...think a NEW found respect has been earned by all the vw competitors....new and old[nooffence henry]..think its the breaking out time in the vw drag scene in australia with more and more people being suprised of what can be
achieved......tip my hat to see the camel filter car on display...all in all was a great day and truley enjoyed seeing a few drop jaws from the public

Yes , great work to all the vw's for turning up , mixing it with other type of racers .Lots said above .
The big NEWS of the event was Peter & Brain Keegan receiving there Pioneer Awards on Saturday afternoon .
I can say , it was the best thing I have ever seen or been part of ( Helping Rod Richardson restore and take the Camel car down for the event ) ,
These guys are our hero's and there commitment towards drag racing and what they did for volkswagen drag racing here and overs sea's is very special
( over all history).
We spent most of the time , listening to storys from , many fellow racers , Peter's crew and friends , past track staff and others .
The car went over very well with everyone . They were blown away that ! the car was the real deal from the 70's .
Rod will chime - in with more after some sleep .Pic's too

Went on Sunday arvo and stayed until the rain started. Had a great time and enjoyed all the cars.
Ben beating Ben. I cheered out loud when he won. Tops match up here.

The Keegan car looks amazing, will all the Camel graphics be going on the car as per original?
On a side note I was having lunch at local café a few months with a few of the local rev heads, there was really nice bloke there as well, he is a
real estate agent in Nowra.
His name is Noel Ward as mentioned on the cover of Hot Rod magazine with the Hyper Henry, he's building a 82 Mustang now to supersprint.

Just got the latest dragster mag, it's got the rocket retro drag event coverage. It's quite a good read.best of all of all the vw's that attended
other than Ben fords mug shot which Vw do you think they put a colour pic of?Yep my little multicoloured peice of shit!Not a bad start to the year
